The chisel edge on the Columbia River Razel knives seems like it could be useful for carving, and maybe shelter building. What do you guys think, useful or gimmick?

I am talking about the smaller 2-1/4" and 3" versions, but feel free to chime in about the big blade as well.

Anyone own one???

I have the ringed Razel and I recently took it with me on a 4 day hiking trip.I found it indispensable for hiking and bushcraft. It started in my pack but soon it was in my pocket for the whole trip and getting used for everything.I chopped down a small tree to make a hiking stick without any problem, opened packaging, carved hot dog sticks and cut paracord for my shelter it laughed at me and asked for more.It held an awesome edge through all the chopping and slicing I did for the 4 days I was out there. It's quite stain resistant too.It was wet for almost all my trip and there was no problem with the blade staying clean.
I touched it up when I got home just to get the hair popping sharpness back.I was quite impressed with this. The sharpened tip was a neat addition and It was useful for shaving tinder from cedar tree bark and knocking knots off of hiking sticks.
I personally carry this knife as my new EDC and the guys at work think it's just great and I totally agree. In fact I'll be getting the others in this line in the near future.

looks like a very interesting design. But, I wish they made a 4 or 5 inch version :(

I have the graham bros version. Its not chisel ground though. Its a v grind. I think it an awesome utility blade, not for me when it comes to bushcraft though IMO

I've got a ringed Razel from the Graham Brothers and love it. I find it useful in the garage and around the house, I'm not sure how good it'll do in the bush.

I'm going camping in a couple weeks and will take it with me. It won't do that great for food prep but it would probably work great for getting a fire ready. Even though it's got a short blade I could probably use it hack some wood and it would probably work fine.

I'll report back once I put it through it's paces.

I may buy one of those CRKTs this weekend.

I have one of the first 3" Graham razels. Beautiful little knife, very clever design, very effective, especially for hard cutting. I've even used the little guy for food prep, since the edge stays sharp enough to cut above its size.

I wouldn't mind a 5" with a ring. I might be dangerous with it, though, taking it outside and slashing at things! :D

I have the smallest one; the stubby i think... but the size is misleading... there is nothing small about it.... very utilitarian.. great for heavy cutting with the front in a guillotine, cutting in this manner is also very controlled very little risk of it slippping and jamming into something elso( like a leg)... another advantage is you hardly notice that its there until you need it. i am most ,likely going to get the ringed razel as well...

One of the guys used his for cuting industrial tubing this way. It's hard to cut rubber evenly because it bends out of the way, but cutting end down with the razel cuts it clean, straight across.
