CRKT Ripple feedback?

I really like the looks of the CRKT ripple. I handled the one at walmart and liked the action on it. I'm thinking of getting one but thinking of getting the higher end ones from an online dealer. Can I get some feedback from those who have them?

Thanks!

They are really great, the Acuto+ holds a decent edge for a long time (it's a modified 440c) the ergos are nice, however the framelock doesnt take a lot of strength to disengage which is nice, I think they extended the cut in the lock bar farther then needed but doesnt hinder performance.

These threads should give you some info:

If you decide to get the higher end SS version, try and get the blue. Its much nicer looking than the black IHMO. It may be a little hard to find. Recently its been out of stock quite often, but some still seem to be showing up.

Thanks for the links. Like you said, the blue seems to be sold out everywhere.

Its a beautiful knife. But honestly, I don't carry it. Just because its a little too small. It's smaller than I thought it was when I ordered it.
But it's a keeper simply for its first production status.
It has great aesthetics though. I love the worn scales and crowned spine.

I got mine from AG Russell a month or so back and it had been out of stock for a while, so it appears he is still ordering and stocking them....worth checking now and then.

Yep, that 1st production is definitely worth holding on to.

The aesthetics are the main difference between the SS and AL versions. You really don't notice it as much until you look at the two side by side.
The functional differences between them are almost nil and I would never imply the SS is worth twice the money.
The IKBS seems a bit smoother on the 2 SS versions I have than the AL, but its a very slight difference.

You can't go wrong with any knife designed by Ken Onion. He designed most of the Zero Tolarance and Kershaw knives

I have a frame-lock Ripple 1 and I think it's a great 'city knife.' Just a fantastic design from Ken Onion and well-executed by CRKT! I like how the frame-lock is integrated into the handle; hardly noticeable on the locking side. The knife is fairly comfortable to carry: very slim in pocket, weighs around 3oz (just heavy enough to feel substantial in hand, imo,) and the right-hand tip-down only pocket-clip is adequate. Not the best clip I've ever used, but one of the coolest (the holes, contour and jimping are all perfectly matched with both the handle & blade thumb-ramp--the flare at the top of the clip also gives you a little more surface area for your thumb if you need to put a little more downward pressure on the knife.) Speaking of tip-down carry, the spine of the blade is rounded so you won't be scraping your hand when reaching into the pocket for other things.

Acuto+ has been an excellent steel so far: I've yet to do any real sharpening on mine (just a light bit o' stropping more from habit than necessity,) no corrosion or staining issues, and you get a nice edge straight from the factory. But I'll be honest and admit that my Ripple hasn't seen any hard or extensive use and isn't like to either.

I don't think I have to say much about the IKBS pivot system. Buttery smooth. Fantastic. I'm still skeptical about the Walmart version being a true IKBS... the logo doesn't appear on the knife or packaging as far as I know.

I did a review of it in the Reviews section as Alann linked to. It's a nice knife for the price. It did feel a bit cheap when I first held it but I think that is mostly me not being used to aluminum scales. It does have a it's fair share of QC issues, but ones you should be able to fix if you don't mind doing a tear down. I wanted to get the SS Ripple but it looks like they are no longer making them and are a bit on the expensive side. That being said, I actually don't have mine anymore. Did a trade with a buddy of mine for a Tenacious. It is a great package if you have been wanting to try out IKBS and flipper though, as I was.

The CRKT Ripple is one of my personal favorites. I've got the larger blue steel framelock version and the cheaper grey aluminum-scaled linerlock Walmart version. The flipping action on the Walmart one is smooth but not nearly as smooth as on the higher-end blue one, which flips like a dream! They're both worth having, and at about half the price, the Walmart version is a good bargain.

The Walmart near me is doing a remodeling to bring back firearms to the store and had the ken onion ripple clearance priced at 12.00 I love the knife and the price

Talked to CRKT at Blade and was told by one of the senior staff that orders from dealers for the original stainless steel Ripple would continue to be filled for the remainder of the year, so production on those has not ended.

Also there will be a revised Ripple (Ripple 2?) probably in 2013. Design/redesign will be done by Ken Onion!:D:thumbup:

I also mentioned the rather inconsistent f&f issues with the Ripple and he said they were going to work hard to eliminate those problems.

i dont believe the walmart ripples are acuto+ steel... iirc they are either aus8 or chinese equivalent.

edit: my wife has a 1st production ripple II and her only gripe with the knife was the pocket clip and the fact that the flipper tang was a little sharp and hurt her index finger... otherwise she says its an excellent flipper.

The ones at WalMart are the Ripple Aluminum which are liner locks and an incredible value for money -
the higher end ones have steel handles and Frame-Locks -

FWIW - I did a review -

I have a ripple II and my only gripe is the sharp edges as well...sooner or letter I need to knock those edges down a bit but it is a great little knife for the office.

All versions of the Ripple are great bargains and the IKBS and flipper are absolutely addicting.

I had one and plan to eventually buy another one, but I bought it at first only because it had IKBS, it turned out to be a great knife.
