CRKT Slippies

In the hand they felt like RR as well , though the 2 I handled today (congress & trapper ) were nail busters to open.

I have not handled these yet, so I can't say for sure, but I do have a Colt Congress (CT-216 in stag) & the pull on it was pretty strong. It's not a nail buster, but it was a pretty strong pull, though.

My guess is the steel's probably 440A.

I'd be surprised if the knives were not made in China of a Chinese alloy steel.

Very surprised, considering that CRKT manufactures almost exclusively in Taiwan and mainland China - lately far more in mainland China than Taiwan.

They look nice....

but I too would like a better description than "high carbon stainless steel". Looks like they are trying to duplicate what CS did with their Classic Line. Cold Steel used carbon V for theirs and made some great knives. These are kinda going to be wait and see.

not bad looking and i believe camillus made the slipjoint for coldsteel:thumbup:
along with alot of others:)
will be looking at these for sure

I don't understand why you guys, experienced 'knifers', are excited about these. they look nice, but no better, or in my opinion, not as nice as, the current Colt (China) ones, and list price is double.
why do they show backside of the Whittler as the main picture ? and the shield is upside down on the Trapper.
what am i missing here ?

Hi Roland,

CRKT knives were some of the first knives I bought as a collector. I liked the company's broad approach in recruiting designers and I think they made some great knives at that price point. I do not like the LAWKS they came up with and veered away from the brand.

On another note, I think it is important to recognize that they are moving into the market because of demand. The era of tacticool knives may have peeked. This may signal a change in the market that could bring increased competition and benefit the collector and user.

Just my 2 cents and worth less, I am sure, lol.

Probably because its another option on the table and maybe hoping another domestically produced option... Not sure what you meant by the trapper the one in the picture is correct just the shot is face down rather than on its back:confused: Not sure the issue
we'll have to wait and see

Ivan "the one in the picture is correct " yep, sorry 'bout that. i've always had a problem with up-down, left-right, getting mixed up. must be a name for this, kind of like a visual dyslexia (dyslooksia ?)

I would expect them to be made overseas since most CRKT stuff is.

They look nice and I'll check them out when I can. However, odds are I'll stick with Buck at that price point unless there is something really special about the CRKT offerings.

My thoughts are the bone looks very nice, the fit in the pics looks decent, and there are some great knives coming out of China (Rough Rider is not the only maker there), look at some of the AG Russell's like the Ranger series, I think this one of mine is the equal to many twice the price made in the US.

I am looking forward to seeing these in person and will hold off till I know more about the maker and especially the steel used.

What does a RR feel like? I read this and then tried picking up knives and for the life of me could not tell a difference in hand with eyes closed. I ran my thumb over bolsters, backsprings, seams between bone and steel, etc and if I didn't know which was which I couldn't have told the difference. The jigged bone on my RR's felt just like the bone on my Case knives, springs on both were smooth...I couldn't feel a difference. One didn't feel cheaper, or plastic like, one didn't feel more substantial than the other.

On some cheap knife you will feel proud steel around scales, seams in the scales, plastic handles always have a "slicker" feel...I don't get any of that with my RR's.
