I was just poking around on the Knife Center home page and ran across a CRKT product which a blade steel described as Z60CDV14. What is that stuff. How does it compare with some of the more familiar steels such as AUS 6,8,10, or 440 A,B,C, ATS-34 etal? Thanks.

It's very similar to AUS 6 and AUS 8, a bit less Ni.

CRKT has a chart at their site.

I bought the Navajo which has this steel. It has been my only disappointment, so far, with CRKT. My other CRKT knives with AUS 8 and ATS-34 can be sharpened to razor sharpness, not so with this knife.

Not only did I have to spend a couple hours redoing the differently angled grinds, I also had to tighten four screws,(one screw stuck out almost 1/16"). Also, the blade is not centered.

Over a period of six weeks I tried many times to get a good edge on this blade (different stones, angles etc), the best I could get was an edge that would shave hair only with pressure.

...shrug...The other seven I own are GREAT knives and razor sharp...go figure.
