Crkt sub 400 dollar range?

I clicked on this thread because I thought you meant CRK, lol. The only thing I like about this knife is the deep carry pocket clip, but I'm a weirdo that loves tiny folders and I love Ken Onion because a rainbow Kershaw Chive that I've had for more than 13 years (I've had another rainbow Chive for more than 12 years) are what got me into tiny folders. But, I don't like the looks of this knife at all, but that's just my tastes.

Oof. That is not a looker.

The Hi Jinx was a pretty nice-looking knife (at least in pictures), even if I didn't buy one.

Not a huge fan of Ken Onion’s designs. The Leek, Ripple and Eros are probably his nicest designs in my estimation.

He overdoes things a lot. When he restrains himself he can be elegant. When he leans too hard into his own style it gets bad, fast. IMHO.

Oh the Swick is another nice one too. I actually think he is quite good when he wants to design a sleek knife, it’s when he goes with those “organic” bulgy shaped knives that look like someone grabbed at a piece of clay and gripped it in all the wrong places.

I actually think the Homefront isn’t a bad design aesthetically either.

How CRKT stays in business is entirely beyond me.

The most interesting thing about this is that, almost certainly, multiple people looked at the design and production process and said "yes, this is an excellent idea"

Their Williams designs are awesome IMO, but otherwise crkt is a pass for me.

Their concept of bringing custom knife designs to a more pedestrian market could be a great onenif they raised the price of all their knives 15-20% so they could put the quality in to do it right.

In the entry level knife market CRKT often has some of the most ambitious designs excecuted as poorly as possible that the knife doesn’t explode before it hits the shelf.

anyone know what Bohler Sleipner steel is?

It's a slightly tougher D2 steel; Not stainless, with high wear resistance, but still below M390/20CP in many vectors; most notably corrosion resistance.

An entirely solid steel, well fit to most models that advertise edge retention as a feature. Think of it as D2 + 25%.

If that means nothing to you, it is a very high quality semi-stainless steel that will do excellently in most situations with minimal maintenance when compared to more common carbon steels. It's an alloy that even picky steel nerds like myself regard as "good"; Typically, you won't find much better in the price range, as it has an excellent balance of edge retention and maintenance effort.

I cannot argue with this with any conscience. CRKT's collaborations have produced some of the most wonderful knives I have ever handled. The Eraser and Sakimori are perfect examples of them "doing it right" in a way that also leads to them, sadly, not doing well in the general market. I wish it were not so.

If anyone involved in the development of the Sakimori or Eraser are reading this: Thank you. I'm sorry it did not do better. You did an excellent job. I enjoyed your work and appreciate the effort you put into it. I have nothing but respect for you, and hope you find success - and I am sorry your designs did not get paired with fitting quality control standards.

Yeah, it makes me slightly nervous that they have a few upcoming designs that I'm cautiously looking forward to. I'd like to try the Seismic and the production version of the Caswell Karambit, the Provoke, but...CRKT.
