CRKT, they have always been crap to me from the start...

My experience is that CRKT is a descent working knife- a price that doesn't kill your wallet, and they will handle reasonable jobs. I don't subject my knives to extremes- maybe some of you do moreso than I. I hate calling ANY brand of knives crap, except a couple that are sold on HSN. But even there exceptions exist. Different folks have different needs, and that's what it boils down to. I know of CRKT's that have been abused for years and have outlived some other, pricier knives.

I understand, you look for more in your knives. I am generally content with whatever works for my needs. Different philosophies I gander.

I have been a big fan of CRKT for quite a while now. They have had some good knives such as the S-2, G. Hawkins D.O.G., the Lightfoot M1 and the ApacheII as I stated earlier. They have made some good tough knives & used steels like ATS34 and AUS8M on many of their models. Now there is only 2 models with what I would consider a higher end steel. I always thought they were great because you could get a good knife, with good steel and some cool designs from some well known makers. But, their steel choices now STINK! They have changed for the worse. Their choice of AUS6 in the past was always questionable to me. But, that was good in comparison to what they are doing now. If they are not going to attempt to compete with and/or keep up with the market, then they should have stuck with the steels they already had. Their steels have gone straight down hill, IMHO. I will treasure the old model CRKT's I have. But, I will refrain from buying any other CRKT's until they regain their steel sanity. I would rather spend more money and buy a knife that stays sharp for more than a cut or two than invest it in a designer butter knife. I buy my knives to use. For me higher end steels are the way to go. My steel choices have gone up, their steel choices have gone down. This is a loyal CRKT fan that is truely disappointed.:(

I've also had some really excellent knives made by CRKT.

The original M16 I bought back in about 1998 or so comes to mind.

I also recently bought a Ryan Plan B for 11.99 which I think is just a ridiculously good value. Very sharp, great fit in the sheath, a nice heavy chunk of AUS 6.

The TiNi coated Hammond Cascade in AUS 8 for about 15 bucks was another winner, great fit and finish on that one too. Even came with a heavy Cordura sheath. (Glove compartment knife.)

However, I do not like their practice of changing blade steel without any notice; and I don't like the fact that they write the same advertising copy for let's say a Crawford Kasper when they made it with AUS 6, and now with 420J. As if nothing had ever happened.

Strange that ONE person had "several" liner locks that went straight.
I wonder how this happened.
Abuse ANYTHING, and it will let you down.

Just my opinion.
Oh, I have numerous M14's & M21's...I really like the M21-14.

I have a CRKT "Wrangell Range", that is one helluva knife for the $$$ and the guy who started this post wouldn't be able to bend the blade even with vise grips, let alone hands...

Sheeeesh

CRKT good................ value and great everyday knives.

Obviously take into account what your intending on using the knife for, if you intend on beating a folder spend the extra $$$$ on a better knife/lock etc etc.

Otherwise CRKT are good.

The Crawford Kasper has gotten me out of more crappy situations than I care to remember including cutting through a cable lock some idiot put on my spare tire.
I had a blowout through the Cajon pass on the 15 right near the weigh station and I needed to get though that damn cable like yesterday. That knife did the trick, even with its crappy steel, low price and undiscriminating price.
The funny thing about alot of posters on this forum is your knives are expensive, seldom used and often talked about. Anybody with a platinum card can go get a Busse, Strider or Emerson your not special.

i'm of the opinion that most of their fixed blades and their M16 1*'s-line up are quality knives, don't fance the other much.

I've got a pointguard that has been my edc for 2 or 3 years now, I've never had a problem with it. It takes a great edge and has never even thought about failing. I've always wondered about these guys that have massive knife or lock failures. Just exactly what are they doing with the knife in the first place? My guess... nothing that a knife especially a folding knife was intended to do...

Yeah, I picked up one of these on sale at Cabela's for $60 and it has literature with it that says it's AUS8. I guess it was an old one, can't be sure.

They are now made with 440A and I probably couldn't tell the difference, but mine is a fantastic knife in looks and performance so far.

I have never been a big buyer of CRKT knives but I do have a few. I think its like any other company. They make better knives and knives for the average working man to afford too. The Serengeti Hunter I had and later gave to my brother was quite impressive. The machining that went into that one blew my mind actually.

The little Rolox repro that Elishewitz did for them is also a very impressive little knife and currently the only one I have in my collector box from CRKT. I've had several forum members send me one of the CRKT S2 knives for various things like pocket clip flips of the factory clip for custom mounting it for tip up carry or for one of my custom low rider clips in conjunction with one of my Wave mods. I must say that each and everytime one of these S2 knives comes to me I have been impressed with the quality of it. For the money these are some nice frame locks and certainly ones I'd have guessed carried a higher price tag than they do.
