CRKT ?

because they don't have to... they sell big volume on the super cheap steel, and likely make more actual profit that way. Doing a 'tiny' run of D2 or 154cm just doesn't pass the minimum profit margin to be worth doing.

What we should do is try placing an order for a few hundred m16's or m21's in 154cm with g10 handles (like maybe thru massdrop)? That is much more likely to work out, the higher the quantity the better.

I still own a M16 and M21 from CRKT. Great designs. I email them every year and ask for a M16 and/or M21 in PE + VG10, D2, 154CM blade steel + G10 handles. I'm not greedy and going to ask for S30V, Maxamet, or Cru etc.

One day....maybe.../sigh

If Ontario can make a Rat 1 in D2 for $40, why can't CRKT up their friggin blade steel?

While, you’re at it, ask em for bearings or bronze washers in the m16 instead of the teflon

I just noticed CRKT’s new m16 releases. M16-02ks, M16-03ks, and M16-04ks. All using Sandvik blades with a stainless steel framelock and a new clip design. Looks like a step in the right direction. I will probably get a m16-03ks

What always confuses me a bit about CRKT is their use of designers that knife guys will know but most of their customers will not. I get their business model and it's fine I wish they would just tighten up the fit and finish a bit if they want to use 8cr13 fine but as I said slightly better attention to detail would make me happy.

I got an M16-03KS. It was quite nice. I didn't keep it because after flipping the clip to tip-up, there was significant pocket snagging.
Prior to that I hadn't bought a CRKT in forever. It got me interested in the brand again. I respect what they're doing. Here at BF we aren't their target market for the most part.
After the M16 I decided to try again so I got the Hissatsu. I figure it's a classic from CRKT. It's overpriced but it's a solid knife. I like it.

Thanks for chiming in on the m16. I’m curious. What was causing the snagging? Though, i’m more interested in it for nostalgia. Not sure how much i would actually carry

It was snagging on the edge of the large frame hole that meets the cut for the lockbar.
Before I got it, my biggest concern was that the lock would feel flimsy. It doesn't. Lockbar has good tension. No blade play, good detent. Flipped out with a bit too much effort but I'm sure it would have broken in.

....I don't want a general purpose EDC that's going to snap off at the tip the moment I might need to use it for a makeshift can opener.

FWIW, I have cut open more cans with a CRKT in AUS6 than any other knife in my collection.

You said it yourself. CRKT sells big volume. They don't do SFOs and they certainly dont do SFO of a "few hundred."

Volume. Volume. Volume.

Anyone Seen that CRKT is going to have the official Blade show 2018 knife? and every model they make now is made out of ultra crapy steel!!!! what gives 5crmov really? I cant see where
CRKT is trying to go with this but flea market stuff is what there pushing now.

1) CRKT is using crappy steel. Stop the presses.
2) Blade whatever winners are typically just their biggest advertisers.

CRKT has been doing the official knife of Blade for some years now. I know because I'm always a sucker and buy one! I get the package in the mail, open it up, wince a little and then stick it away for posterity in a knife bag.

Although I never carry one, I still buy a couple of CRKT knives per year. They always seem to come out with some goofy mechanism that I want to try out first hand.

Is CRKT steel crappy? Yes.
Is CRKT fit/finish poor? Yes.
Is CRKT drastically overpriced? Yes.

They still manage to get a little bit of my knife dollar because I like to support their attempts at innovation. Honestly, if they weren't coming out with weird lock mechanisms, I'm not sure who would. To me, its worth a little of my knife budget to not see that innovation disappear. A knife world without CRKT would be a lot more boring (but probably a little sharper ;)).

I own one CRKT... the Follow Thru Compact. It is an awesome knife for about $35. I use it from time to time as the flipping action is one of the best I have ever seen and it’s small and light.

Maybe I got lucky, but it is a good knife for the $$$. I look at them as I do Gerber, S&W, SOG, etc. though and I doubt I will ever buy another CRKT as there is lots of competition in that $30-60 range these days.
