CRKT?

I have a few CRKT knives and have had no problems with them , but they are all 10 years old or older , I don't know anything about the newer stuff though , apparently they make junk nowadays.

I'm actually familiar with 9CR18MoV🤯😳
This (offshore BTI) Old Timer 858OTB Lumberjack stockman has that blade steel...

I don't have any 8CR14MoV, but do have a few 7CR17MoV (also offshore BTI or Taylor Old Timer's, and one offshore Taylor Schrade Hammer Brand. My offsfore Schrade/Old Timer's seem to have a good/excellent heat treat.)
Both the 9CR18MoV and 7CR17MoV will take and hold the keen 10° per side/20° inclusive edge angle long enough, that I was taught to sharpen to ~60 years ago.
I'll guess the 8CR14MoV, being between the two will take and hold the keen edge, as well? ...

Some comments on the Chinese steel series:

7Cr17Mov is a Chinese analog of 440A. I've had a bunch of knives in it over the years, including fixed blades. Edge retention is fairly underwhelming and it doesn't help that companies tend to run it on the softer side. At least it has decent corrosion resistance?

8Cr13Mov is a Chinese analog of AUS-8. It turns out that 8Cr14Mov and 8Cr13Mov are the same steel and this one is a little controversial. As Nick Shabazz used to say, it's either barely adequate or barely inadequate for most people. Larrin recently wrote a friendly article about it. Where it shines versus the others here is in having higher toughness. Total edge retention is close to 14C28N but that doesn't tell the whole story. With 8Cr, it's easy to get a very sharp edge but it quickly reduces to a ho-hum working edge.

9Cr18Mov is a Chinese analog of X90CrMoV18, which is similar to Japanese Acuto 440 or 440+. While less tough, it can offer much better edge retention and corrosion resistance. I say "can" because like 7Cr, I've seen it run softer from both CRKT and Schrade. It gets a much better heat treatment on the Civivi and Sencut knives from WE. Kizer recently launched a budget line in 9Cr18Mov where I'd expect the same.

10Cr15CoMov is a Chinese analog of VG-10 and decent for what it is. (BTW, the Civivi Damascus is a mix of 9Cr18Mov and 10Cr15CoMov.)

As far as drop points go, most of the wood-scale models from WE (Civivi and Sencut) have black coated blades and/or hardware. I'm not sure how you feel about that. While not wood, you might check out the Sencut Neches in 10Cr15CoMov. It has recently been discontinued and Sencut has them down to half price, both on their website and their corresponding Amazon store. (Note that WE is a supporting member with their own forum here.)

Just bought a LNIB Shizuka noh Ken to go w/my Otanashi noh Ken.

This unfortunately, any knife that needs a lock for the lock is a bit sketchy, I would go with some from kizer or Civivi before I went with a crkt folder. That said, I did get this guy for the novelty:

I got that one too. My wife bought it for me when we were dating. There was a different knife at the time I dont remember the name of that had a weird way of opening as well, my wife ordered that other knife but they were apparently sold out so they just sent her this knife instead without even contacting her about it first. I was a little bummed as I really wanted the other one but this is so weird it was worth keeping.

depends where it's made. the usa assembled m16-14sfa's weren't bad, but not great. the Taiwan made m16s were not bad at all. at the same time the Chinese made ones weren't very good...but things have changed in China. I'm betting they are much better than they were.
This exactly, not all the M-16s are equal, the cheapest of them from China were junk years ago when I handled one last, but I serviced many of the Taiwanese M-16 models and other than crappy clip screws always coming loose, they were stout and made decently well, saw them survive abuse.
I used to have a Taiwan made model long ago and it was good, but I really didn’t use it much and traded it off. I believe the models with Aus-6 or aus-8 were good, as were the 12C27 models, but I would avoid the 8CR China models unless they have changed for the better.

I bought this one some years back, Taiwan made, titanium scales and AUS8 steel. It's very well made and an iconic design from Kit Carson.

At the time It was so inexpensive ($59), I actually emailed CRKT and sent a copy of the vendor's link to confirm if it was authentic.
They answered in an hour, confirmed authenticity and I bought it.

I see now they don't have a titanium scaled M16 -14 in their catalog, but they still have an aluminum version and a stainless-steel frame lock (M16-04).
Prices are still not bad.... I'm tempted to try the frame lock.
