  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Crock sticks = what grit?

I have an old "V" type crock stick sharpener (no brand name on it). The white ceramic rods are quite smoothe (not glass smoothe). Would someone hazard a guess as to the grit equivalent of these rods?

I believe the old Case-branded Crock sticks are about 1200 grit (6 micron.) FWIW this is the same grit you see referenced for Spyderco's white ceramic rods and hones, and they do seem comparable in use.

In most hones the grit comes from distinct particles bonded together. Ceramic starts out as distinct particles, but they are fused (partially melted?) together for form a substance that has lumps and orifices, but is not granular in the same sense as other hones. You can't directly compare ceramic grit to other grit.

I have used the world cutlery gray and white crock sticks for several years now. When they get clogged I cleanem with whatever everyones talkin about at the time. I just cleaned mine, this time i soap and watered em, then scrubbed em with flitz, then soap and watered em again. they look as new. waiting for em to dry right now. Id like to see a set of diamond 3/8 rods come out as a replacement.
