Crockpots

No time to write recipes (I don't really follow them anyway) but a few of the things I've made in my 6 Qt. Crockpot are:

Chicken & Rice
Squirrel Stew
Venison Stroganoff (Man, that was good!)
Cheesy Potato Soup
Tuna & Noodles
Mulled Cider for the holidays

Although it has been eclipsed by the microwave, the crockpot was the starving single male's first second choice for meal preparation. :p

There's no reason for a single male to not cook other than pure laziness.:p It's most certainly not rocket science.
I learned to cook out of spite and being hungry for good decent food. The word "bored" isn't in my vocabulary but if it was food is the one thing I could be bored with.
I see guys eating the same ol' green beans, corn and peas when eating out when there's a multitude of other delicious foods on the buffet. It's enough to make me sick.:barf:
I became the envy of all single men and stepkids and kids in the nieghborhood when one of the kid's aquintances came in one day and smelled peach cobbler cooking from the time she entered the driveway. She asked if it was from a box and I told her that I didn't cook anything from a box, that I did everything from scratch!!!! Damned good cobbler it was too!!!!:D :p
I may start with a recipe so as to learn what's in something I haven't cooked before but I don't cook from a recipe either beyond that.
I seldom measure any small ingredients but draw the line when it's cups until I've cooked the same thing a time or two and learned how much a given amount of cups is. I have one bowl that holds three cups of flour and the rest of the ingredients for homemade biscuits. It never fails but I must admit that this is one instance that I do cheat and use Bisquick for, but it's the same things, ingredients, that you use for homemade anyway so I don't consider it cheating. :p ;) :D

Yvsa. I am definitely guilty of the Lazy thing, it just never seems worth it cooking for one! I do know how to cook spent a bit of time working on fishing boats so it is one of many things you learn in that environment.

The trick for cooking for one is too not cook for one. Cook like you were going to feed four and then serve up individual servings of the meal and freeze them. Instant TV dinners that are actually tasty and decent good food.:D

Bilestoad--thanks! Sounds delicious.

My roast turned out really well last night. I managed to feed three people for around $6, and even ended up with some leftovers.

You bet!
A family favorite.

We skip the microwave and heat the oil in the skillet til it pops when you sling a drop of water into it. Then pour in the potatoes (sliced and rinsed) about 3 ounces of water ( use 1/2 a coffee cup) and put the lid on fast!

Once the water is boiled out the potatoes are mostly cooked. Then you just are browning and turning the dinner.

Great with Meat loaf (good in the crockpot, but it doesn't loaf, just serve it as is), better with pork chops cooked with 'shrooms and peas in the electric skillet. Electric Skillet another modern neccessity!

Yvsa, Good Idea, now I have a touch of the guilts, I had better start eating correctly :)
Rod you will most definitely enjoy eating again but please don't blame me for any weight gain.:D
I've always cooked when I've been by myself and often even when I was married back when I could. I really enjoy cooking and still help my Barbie now and then since she bought me a stool where I can set down in th kitchen.
I do have to admit to having atrocious table manners when I've lived alone, eating right outta the pan and such, keeps it warm longer.;) :D

Very good advice on cooking more, etc Yvsa. I know that the reason I don't cook too much(besides cost, which is more towards limiting what I cook, then how often I cook) is exactly what you said, laziness. But I think another part is that while I cook bigger portions, so I can make several meals out of it, as you said, which saves time, is the fact that I'm just cooking for myself. I really do enjoy cooking, but I enjoy it at least twice as much, if not more, when I'm cooking for someone else, not just for myself. As always, even a hermit like me has to admit that we are social creatures, and something that's good by yourself, cooking(least I enjoy it) is that much better when you share it with someone else.

Anyways, enough philosophizing, got some great recipes here so far, any more? :)

I most certainly agree, but then ya gotta mind yer manners.;)
But when it's with someone you enjoy being around I s'pose it's worth it.:D
