Crooked blade?

Hey all,

This is my first post, so be easy on me.

I just purchased a Gerber Coffin handle Bowie (sometimes referred to as the 'Gerber Australian Bowie').

It was listed as being in 'excellent condition', though when I received it the blade is clearly not straight with the handle...easily 3/8" off or more.

I'm looking at sending it back, though I wanted to get a few opinions first...

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

That looks like a defect, it's bent.

Send it back to the seller!

On what is almost certainly an unrelated note, I recall reading about Gerber Mark II's that were issued to the military during Vietnam, apparently canted in the same way, at about the same angle, to make them more comfortable as boot knives. I believe they stopped making them like that, for exactly this reason -- people thought they were defective. The bowie looks too new to be Vietnam era, however, and I doubt Gerber would make the same mistake again... It's almost certainly a defect, or an ill-advised user modification. Just found it interesting.
