Would someone be kind enough to point to where "cross-forums bashing" is discussed or explained here on BF? I was just told by a Moderator that I did that in a post of mine and am curious as to just what constitutes it and where that information can be found, here on BF. I've already re-checked the "FAQ" and "Rules" sticky threads in this forumand was unable to locate any information on it. Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure it's a "policy / rule" it's just good ol' common courtesy not to. There are many people here who are members of other forums .
Even other forums prefer not to have other forums bashed on their forums. If you look around at some of the other forums many people are like myself and use the same screen name everywhere.

It's kind of a "don't air your dirty laundry in public" type thing is the best way I can describe it. I don't know if it will but , I hope this helped a little bit.

Thank you, thebladerunr, it did help some. I always thought 'cross-forums bashing' was smack talking another forum or the members of another forum, but I may have been mistaken.

It is more or less one of those unwritten rules that evolve due to common sense and respect, among other things. Other forums have their own ways and culture and what might be acceptable here is not necessarily acceptable there and vice versa. Best way to avoid trouble is to simply not refer to other forums at all or, if absolutely necessary, only use unambiguously neutral or positive terms. This way everyone is happy.

Simple.

This forum was not created to discussion the pros and cons of other forums. It was created for the discussion of knives.

It should not be that difficult to understand the results that would come about from allowing discussions of other forums.

There's an old adage, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." And that is the best policy. In fact, here at bf.c, we discourage any mention of any other knife forum at all; this way there can never be any accusation of any "bashing" going on.

Unfortunately, on the Internet (and in life I'm general) a lot of people seem to have trouble distinguishing themselves. If you can't make yourself taller, then you can cut down everyone else and hope that that makes you look taller in comparison. Here at bf.c, we prefer to try to distinguish ourselves and not to engage in cutting others down. It is unfortunate that some other sites don't seem to take this approach. But, that is the way it is. We prefer not to stoop to that level and are so pedantic about that goal as to simply expunge any mention of any other knife forum at all. Maybe this is a bit overboard on our part, but one can't argue that it doesn't work. If there is no mention of any other knife forum, then there can be no question of any motive in discussing other forums. To avoid infections, surgeons maintain a "sterile field." Similarly, to avoid the all-to-common tendancy to bash, we prefer a sterile field.

you are correct, it is. and upon my initial read, it appeared to me that was your intent.

consider the topic, and the controversy and volitility surrounding it, and a thread of that nature easily becomes a cross forum war. it may not even be insulting, necessarily. even cross forum "discussions" may be halted for potentially going sideways.

as mentioned, it is generally better not to mention other forums here. there are appropriate discussions that necessitate same, such as a request for a good gun forum, watch forum, or camera forum.

Thank you all for the very helpful advice! Until now, I hadn't realized that merely mentioning another forum was frowned upon. Now that I do, I'll make sure to act accordingly.

Thanks,

Eh. It's not that other forums are really frowned upon per se. You can mention you saw something elsewhere and wanted more information on it. You can point people in the right direction if it's best for them (IE, flashlights to Candlepower, guns to TheHighRoad, watches to TimeZone).

The problem is that there is a TON of interforum drama here in the knife industry. By and large we try to avoid that. Some people have nothing better to do than talk crap all the time, and others want to help everyone out they can. Follow the golden rule. If you can answer a question, do so. If it's about knives, however, try to keep the interforums rivalry or similar down to the bare minimum. If it's drama related, check with a mod before even bringing it up.

Badlands going down the tubes is VERY MUCH drama related. MASSIVE, unnecessary, totally not needed here drama and I really don't want to be earning negative karma by feeding other people's schadenfreude.
