crossbow question

This from Anti-Busse Maximus?!? JK :D

Man I got to change, everybody gets me wrong, I love busses, I just don't NEED one. ;)

I have a problem with anyone telling me that their way is the one true way, knives, bows or anything else. Chris

Yes, as everyone knows, the crossbow bolt is quite similar to the .30 Cal. bullet.

What, are you a comedian or something?
Mechanics, young man, not terminal ballistics (or external ballistics for that matter.

Yes, indeed, mount stock to shoulder, sight down centerline, pull trigger. Exactly the same as a rifle, nothing like a bow. Mechanics.

Before someone else jumps in my crap, I never expressed anything that could be construed as being against hunting with crossbows. What I said is, if the purpose is to get him used to bowhunting, it doesn't. It gets him used to rifle hunting, albeit at short range. I also said to check the local laws, as it's not legal to hunt with crossbows except in general gun season IN MANY STATES. IF that was the case where he is hunting, then it would only limit WHEN he could do it.

Personally, if the choice is between him hunting with a crossbow and not hunting, I'd say get him the crossbow. If the goal is to get him more used to bowhunting, my suggestion was to get him a lighter bow to train with. Again, in MANY states, small game and varmints can be hunted with bows under 35 pounds.

So, since the cheap bows don't cost much, there's no reason he couldn't go small game hunting with his son and still be able to get him a crossbow for deer hunting.

Besides, crossbows are also a hell of a lot of fun.

Hey Guys, lets remember, the more hunters the better in our present declining numbers situation (don't fuss over the tool used). The antis would love our bickering.

Well as it happened this year in our public archery range in Toronto, crossbows were outlawed because the police did not like them in the city limits. As I stated earlier, I am not partial to crossbows but, I am not happy about the decision because it might just dissuade future hunters from picking up the sport.

I used the term "training wheels" in jest, because that is what I learned to bow hunt with and used for many years. Last year he almost got one with his shotgun, and is chomping at the bit to actually get one this year. I not against hunting with any means that are legal where you hunt. The reason I prefer traditional bows is because I have to learn to be even more patient, and learn more about the habits of my game because my range is more limited. For me it is more about the hunt than the kill, and I want to teach him that more than anything. I have actually been happier at times knowing I could have easily gotten that deer with my rifle, but got close enough to get a shot with my longbow and not get the shot. That being said, it would be nice to see him be able to get one to help keep him so interested like he is now. If hunting with the crossbow for one season helps keep his intrest, then I will let him hunt with one.
