Wow, and beautiful! And good for you phantomknives, and thanks for posting this! Used to be a matter of course that Hudson Bay 'point' blankets were converted into coats and jackets (and who wouldn't immediately recognize those iconic green, red, yellow and blue stripes?). But this was back in the days when there was a tailor/seamstress at every port, trading post, town or village. Custom-made outdoor clothing is now become obscure and a labour-of-love. Properly processed wool is incredible stuff (and fast becoming a lost art) which is why chemists and cut-corner just-in-time manufacturers have gone entirely out of their way to try to achieve similar properties via space-age synthetics. Obviously I'm going to start keeping my eyes out for H B blankets at garage sales and flea markets from here on in!![]()
since we're on the topic of jackets...
had to pull a few favors to get this one made out of a surplus felt blanket, sherpa torso with that sleeping bag feeling stuff in the sleeves.
map pocket on the back and an extra tall collar for those windy days. i'd never be able to pay $350 for a real mackinaw, so i got one made
