It looks like I'll be in Crossville,TN for a few days this weekend. If I can sneak away from the family which shops would be the best?

I can't remember any great stores in Crossville when I was living near there a few years back. There was an Army/Navy store, C&C Army Surplus, close to a winery near I-40.

You will probably have better luck in Cookeville, TN. It is about 30 min. west of Crossville on I-40. They have Cumberland Mountain Outdoors, Outdoor Experience, Cumberland Knifeworks (I don't know if they have a physical store or just online), and French's boots. There is also another good shop for boots and shoes in Monterey, TN... it is about 1/2 between Crossville and Cookeville, I believe the store was called Simon's (I am not certain on the name).

There was also a good hunting store in Cookeville on Jefferson Ave. (south of I-40 about 1-2 miles... near hwy 111).

Don't get me wrong, there could be plenty of good places in Crossville, I just can't remember any.

I hope this helps.

I encourage you to drive down to Fall Creek Falls State Park while you are in the area, it is really nice this time of year... actually it is nice all year.

Enjoy the great state of TN... go Vols!

The only sporting goods type store that I can think of in Crossville would be the Army Surplus store gofor3 was talking about. Although, I cannot say anything really good about the place. If you decide to go there make sure you take cash, they do not accept plastic and are real particular on checks. There are a few other places in Cookeville that is pretty good. I would suggest Outdoor Junction and G.I. Depot here. They are probably about 40 minutes from Crossville. You may want to go down to the Mennonite community (Muddy Pond) to pick up leather products. This is the best place I know to find cheap, large leather scraps.

+1 on the Mennonite Community in Muddy Pond... I was not sure if it was Muddy Pond or Hanging Limb. Anyhow, the leather shop there is top-notch. If you decide you want something made the guy there will ship it to you when it is finished, and his prices/quality are really good.

fish,
Our family used to take vactions to Crossville every year. We stayed at Cumberland mountain State Park. Great times were had. In those days the park was semi-wilderness yet not far from civilization. No phone, no cell phone service. If someone wanted to contact you they had to leave a message at the park office. Now they have a golf course and modern ameinities. Not the same. When I was growing up we swam in the lake. Now there is an olympic size swimming pool that all the local summer daycares use for low cost entertainment. Sorry about the discertation.... gofor3 was right about Falls Creek Falls. It still has much natural beauty. ( golf course too). But in answer to your original question.......I can't help you.
