How much depth do you have behind that beautiful crotch figure? In other words, with your next cut (presumably parallel to the one you just made) how thick a slab can you get (from each half)? The reason I'm asking is, that would be a total of three cuts to get two slabs (one from each half. If the crotch isn't very thick I guess one would want to just make two cuts (leaving out the center one) getting just one slab. Does that make sense? What have you found to be so?

Thanks, Phil

Pretty soon you'll be cruising the neighborhood with a chainsaw wanting to cut down old trees in your neighbor's front yards.

well i did cut agaian. say one piece is 6" wide. i cut so to leave the slab about 4" thick. well thats what i tried. so some parts of my cut the chainsaw would only be cuttingwith a few inches of the front and back of the chainsaw not cutting anything. so the part that fell was a totally straight but uneven cut through the burl part. So out of the one 6" piece- In summary one of the pieces is approx 4" ( i didnt measure yet) with patches of heavy duty burl on the back side and approx 2" of burl slab thats not a perfet sslab--meaning its just an odd shaped piece of 2" burl.--thanks-mark

well i got it all anchor sealed up. im wondering -im i gonna make handles out of it , or can i use it for something else --hum. any ideas--thanks-marekkz

A large section of uniquely patterned wood makes a great display base for custom knives at a show.Sand it smooth, and put on a coat of varnish or shellac. Add some 1-2" upright pieces and lean the knives on them.

Good point from Stacy, I use mesquite and ebony bases from south Texas. It sure makes the knifes look great for display. Also, you can use a Y dear antler to set the handle on. Rey
