Crucible is getting rid of L6

Hey guys, I called up crucible to get some info as to why impact toughness is less after a 500 degree temper then after a 400 degree temper and the tech mentioned that they are going to stop providing L6! I thought I would give a heads up, see if anyone has heard of this as well. Time to stock up and ration I guess.....

Edit*** I just called to order some L6 and the sales guys said that he can neither confirm or deny the fact that L6 will be discontinued. I'm just trying to pass information along for those who might like to know.

Michael, good to see ya on Blade Forums! I have also heard this from a couple guys who use it.

I saw your other thread asking about L6 and would have posted but I have used very little L6. I do know it is a different animal and does some weird stuff.
 
Thanks Don! I am pretty happy with the way my L6 blades have been turning out so I'm a bit bummed that they are going to stop providing it, but what can you do.
 
Too many of the good knife steels are disappearing. The US steel industry is in trouble. I was told 5 or 6 years ago to stock up on good high carbon steels, I can now see why.

Gotta go to the 'Black Market" for the good stuff, like W2, 1084, maybe soon to be L6 and probably others;)
