Crud around peened pins?

Hello all,

How do you guys keep from getting crud around your peened pins? I finish the handle with sacrificial pins, remove them, glue in the real pins, scrape/sand off the dried glue around the pins, peen them, then grind the head flush.

I end up with "crud" around the pin!

All suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

This is after final sanding and buffing.

G 10 is brittle. You are peening the pins way too much! The White is chipping. Taper yor pin holes with a three degree reamer and use a lupe to watch the pin as you peen. Use a small hammer. Tap tap tap look tap tap look until thr pin swells to just fit the hole. Then stop!

Using a pin press can also avoid damaging the scales.
I rarely peen the pins on scales. Drilling the holes to the correct size, roughing the sides of the pins, and using a high quality epoxy will hold quite well.
Corby bolts will hold .... and look .... even better.

Great tips Brent thank you.

Stacy I am a fan of Corby bolts. I'm working on getting the pins domed too. This is sort of phase 1.
