Was looking at various steels for my next purchase and really liked the qualities of cruforgev and its heat treating process, however I am just a stock removal guy and working with steel that is 1/4" thick is a pain, alot of wasted metal and belts. Just wondering if this is provided anywhere in thinner stock like 1/8" or 5/32".

Doubt it but figured I would ask the pros.

I think the availability of CruForge V is limited, so what you see may be what there is. I'm sure there are tons of other great comparable options for stock removal that would be easier to acquire in your sizes, but if you really have your heart set on this steel, you can always consider working out a deal with someone to forge down and surface grind some larger stock for you.

Worst case, shoot me a pm, I'll be happy to forge down some thicker stock in trade for some of the steel.

The whole point of Cruerforge-V is that it is a great forging steel. If doing stock removal, many other steels are as good or better choices.

Thanks guys, actually been talking to a forger here on the site and he gave me a bunch of good info and the story behind the steel. I have a good offer on some forging services if I ever decided to try some of it out. From the sounds of things though it would be a short lived adventure.

Give CPM3V a try if you want a super tough steel. For a stock removal guy, it is a great choice. It leaves D2 in its rear view mirror. A satin finish with a medium Scotch Brite belt ( maroon) is a good final finish for 3V.
