Cryo II vs 0566 vs XM-18???

I'm with you freewheeling. Would love to find Rick at a show in the DC area. I have a 550 and cryo with a cryo II and 566 on preorder(just went and pulled the trigger against my better judgement). I would love an XM 18 3.5 spanto flipper, but am unwilling to pay close to a grand for it. Not that I dont think it is a wonderful knife, but I'm not lining someone's pocket with hundreds just to get it.

Seems like I read that the knives he sells at shows are on a lottery system. Other wise the only first X-number of people threw the door would have a chance of getting one.

That is correct, Rick Hinderer Knives uses a lottery system as they have more customers than knives and feel this is the fairest way to sell them. The next show RHK will be attending is the East Coast Custom Knife Show in Jersey City, New Jersey. http://fiftyfiftyproductions.net/

I would take a chance with the lottery because I want one to carry one not because I want to turn around and double my money on some auction site. I see his knives as tools not $$$$$.

How does the lottery work? You go to the show, register at the booth, and then are notified as to whether you made the cut after which you order from his site?

You go to the table and get a ticket. If your # is drawn you go to the table and pick from what's there and pay for it right then. Of course the really cool customs get gone but the lucky first drawn winners.

But don't you still have to be active military, law enforcement, or a first responder to buy from Rick? Isn't that why the secondary market is so high for us ordinary stiffs in conjunction with the limited supply?

Just out of curiosity, what if you wanted to buy the knife as a gift for someone who is an active-duty marine? Can you get gift certificates they can use or something, or could you actually present them with the knife somehow?

Rick make a limited number of knives per given time period. There is quite a list of qualified folks who want a knife, in other words a knife is readily available on demand.

Your best bet is to join his forum and seek your answers there, look on his website for details.

From what I've read that probably won't work, but shoot Rob Orlando a PM, he'd be able to tell you for sure.
