CS 110--Rivets: Functional or Not?

Since getting my LE112--I'm REALLY getting an itch for a CS 110.

I guess my question is--Do the rivets go all the way through and help support the scales---Or are they non-functional and for decorative purposes only??

The scale rivets actually attach the scales to the frame. There is no adhesive between the scales and the frame as the older knives had in conjuction with the rivets.

If you opt for no rivets on a BCKS order, the scales will be attached to the frame with adhesive. Also keep in mind the 110s that come out of the BCKS will not have an exposed rocker bar rivet; even if you opt for scale rivets.

Yep...what Frank said.

Custom Shop w/ pins (rivets)...rocker bar not exposed:

Standard...pinned with rocker bar:

A follow up question.

Which would be the superior system specifically for the sambar stag? This knife will be a user so it might see the occasional drop or hard bump. Would the rivets give it more flex? Or am I just overthinking this??

Leaning toward the stag--although the flamewood CS110 in the picture thread looks unreal too.

fro real?????
is that a new thing?
semms i have some withthe rocker showing...
when did that happen???
gee.... wizz :o missed some thing!

I'm thinking that there are two school's of thought. For example: Five-O Mike doesn't like 'em. Goose does. Ginger or Mary Ann. Taste great. Less filling.

Here is a pic with some Asian Buffs with and without. Also a Sambar with and one without.

So far as being sturdy...I read somewhere that Buck has seen few, if any, of the expoy handles failing on the 110. Not a bad record when you think of the quantity produced.

Buck 110 has a good point on the cracks though. None of mine have 'em, but I have seem knives with hairline cracks near the pins.

FWIW, all my users have pins. I have a small collection, but all my woods have pins. My animal stuff is a mix of pins and no pins.

I prefer the old skool look of the pins. Your mileage may vary.

I would say that they will all be equally durable! Pins, no pins etc...
Buy what you like!!
Here's a thought, buy one of each and post back here which one you like better :D (and why)
Good luck

Thread Drift....

Goose's pics are a great example of the times I have said to click once, and then click again.
Really gets in close on these. Makes the Damascus really show. And that edge on the 2nd one down...wow...

Back to your regularly scheduled program....

Back to your regularly scheduled program

Thats not thread drift! Its informational!

And WOW that is a beauty of an edge on that "second one down" ;)

They all look great Goose! Nice herd!

Reckon its your linux thing?

I am running xp and using netscape as a brouser...

This install is 98lite & Mozilla 1.7.12...might be my "preferences"...also, I only view at 800x600...no matter what monitor I use...(this is a 19"; but anything higher than 800x600, the text is too small to read)... :grumpy:

No matter...1403 x 1155 pixels is big enough... :D

Verrrrrrrry interesting....... You ARE seeing the big pic at 1403x1155...I just checked.

Rest of us see the smaller version first @ 652x537....well some of us anyway.....

Could this be one of your bandwidth problems?

I just tried that...makes 'em huge. I like that! That picture is the best example I've seen that clearly shows the differences between the old and new style(short) finger grooves.

I never knew that about CS 110's or that there was a change in the way they do finger grooves. Wow, I learned two things in one thread! :p

When did the new style finger grooves start?

OK--finally made up my mind after a day of hemmin and hawin on handle material---rivets or not:confused:. The blade was a no-brainer- BG-42.

So here's what I wound up ordering:
BG-42
Silver bolsters
Oak
Rivets
Tan sheath

I thought a lot about the whole user/display issue---this will be a user---so that's why I went with wood.

The Dymond(sp??)wood offerings are just hidious to my eyes---so that left Oak and Walnut---I chose Oak mainly because I've never seen it before on a 110.

And to tell the truth---I wasn't all that impressed with all the stag pics of CS 110's-----the stag scales on my LE 112 are much nicer than anything I've seen on here---maybe I just got a good one and it spoiled me----who knows.

I already have an idea what my next CS 110 will be---this time for display.

Thanks for all your help---OBG

PS-----I think I got the pics working on the LE 112 thread if you would like to see the stag scales on that knife.
