A few months ago I ordered a CS Bird and Trout to use as a neck knife to be easily accessible for work. I like everything about it except the blade steel (Aus 8). At work I cut a lot of cardboard and the edge retention of the Aus8 leaves something to be desired.
So my question is: Does anybody make a similar (or identical) knife in D2?
Your help, knowledge, and information is greatly appreciated.

AG Russell has the Hunter Scalpel. Not the same design as the Cold Steel, but it's a nice little blade made from better steel, AUS-10. For $20, I think it's a great piece.

They also have the Bird and Trout which is a little bigger, in D2, VG-10, and ATS-34.

I'd contact some of the custom makers on here and see what they can make up for you. I don't know about getting it in D2, but I guarantee that there are some that can make one up in 1095 at around 58-59RC for a pretty good price.

Sorry if I sound stoopid, but how do I do that (contact the custom knife makers)?

Go the hosted knifemaker forum section. Makers who have a forum on here are in there. You can also go the maker's for sale section and see a wide variety of makers and knives for sale.

Cold steel bird and trout originally was made in the USA from carbon V witch is carbon 5. I have been using carbon V for many years with no complaints. Plus the original bird and trout came black powder coated and a much higher quality sheath then the recent bird and trout made today. I have many carbon V knifes so if any one would like pictures just let me know.
