While I do not have one, I have seen many reviews and commentaries about the bushman on this site. The consensus seems to be that it is as tough as a knife can be and a great value for its $30 price tag. Even the extreme knife testers seem to have respect for this knife.

So if the knife works for you, as in comfort, sheathing and your confidence with its abilities, it should do fine!

It all depends what your gonna be doing bro !

A lot of folks on this forum go into the wilderness armed with nothing more than a Mora and a SAK and for normal duties they get by just fine. The CS Bushman is many times tougher than a Mora !!!!

I'd say...if it's what you've been using for your "practice" survival stuff all along and it has held up well and you like it...then that's probably good enough and then some. JMO -Matt-

like was said, if you are comfortable with it and know how to use it through practice, it will make a good candidate. i don't like to depend on a tool in the woods unless i have at least played with it at home first to know how it works etc.

i have an older bushman and it has held up great for me (and the owner before me). i have heard a report of a modern one breaking, but no pics and funny sounding story, plus a reluctance to send it back when prompted make me wonder. at any rate, it probably was a dud because i haven't heard anything else bad.

I did my research, and for an eighteen dollar knife on the bay, it's a nice knife. Looks and sounds very durable. My CS Ultimate Hunter and Recon 1 are great folders, so I'm sure the fixed blade will do just fine.

With 7" of blade, that sucker looks like it can chop and baton very well. Let us know how the trip goes, J.

Mine's an old Bushman and has taken a beating backpacking, hunting etc. I got it to experiment with the only thing I didn't like was the sheath ,
which was replaced with my spec-ops sheath Bang for the buck it's hard to beat. I've made a few mods to mine & it's even better.
It gets used as much as any fixed blade I own.

Make sure to take a backup knife. A mora would be fine. Not that I think you'll break it, but a backup blade is always a good idea.

I broke my son's last fall. We were cleaning a deer and i did some lite prying on bone with it and snap. I bought it for him a couple of years ago and figured it was semi-disposable and that he might lose it. He is 12 yoa now and I bought him a rat-3 in d2 to make up for it so he came out ahead. For me they are a lite use knife only and I would not depend on them. For the record I know knives aren't for prying but Busse has ruined me on that.

I've had a bushman for years. I've beat that thing like it stole from me, and I've yet to damage it at all. I certainly dont know why'd you would say it's a "lite use" knife, and I'm hard-pressed to believe you broke it doing some light prying. But, maybe it was a defective knife, who knows. But, I certainly wouldnt hesitate to recommend one to someone, if they want a cheap knife that will take a serious beating.

I love mine. I hate to say it but with a CS BM, a Mora Clipper and a SAK OHT I think I would be in great shape in blade-wise in the woods. Granted I have pricier stuff, but when it boils down to it, these inexpensive knives perform very well.
