CS CAT TANTO?

Um, no, I'm not a LEO. (I'm just a paranoid lunatic.) I don't think we're really that far apart ... sometimes communication on the net can be unclear. I really didn't mean to accuse you of wanting to stand around grinning after stabbing someone ... that didn't come out the way I meant it. Sorry about that.

A sharp stick is a lethal weapon, and so is a well-chosen ballpoint pen. The Cold Steel Delta Dart is at least a little better than either, no danger of that breaking in use.... I'd like to carry something that can cut as well as thrust the next time I have to go to court, but I'd still like to be confident it won't break at a crucial moment.

I hope it's clear now why I'm interested in nonmetallic knives and why I care about how strong they are, and I apologize for the heated tone of that last post.

Chris, did the FF snapping like that seem reasonable to you? From what I have read about G10-like materials I would have expected them to be much stronger.

About the NRG breaking, I guessed that exactly as Chris stated its geared towards those that want to be ninja's. In reality it would make the wound worse if you pulled the blade out, especially depending on exactly how you do this.

When I mentioned that the knife looked a little thin, I popbably used the wrong word. I figured that it was the full thickness, but it looks to me that the index cutout is a little too deep and that too much strength might be lost. But as I said before, it seems pretty durable from what you have done with it. People around here at a fair bit softer than oak.

Okay Cougar, read you fine, all this static in the air is making transmission foggy....tell you what. I can get another NRG, so in the next week or so I will put the NRG thru the same tests as I did the CAT. Fair enough? This way we can both be satisfied about it one way or the other...you gotta admit the cool factor does come into play some here...

Ahh, no I didn't think that the FF fracturing was a good thing, but to my buddy's credit he is an amatuer weight lifter and he was talking about his ex-wife when it made lateral contact with a metal table top. FF have a pretty high glass content giving them their edge, but makes them more brittle.

When I make it back to Newt's shop I'll buy another NRG with the intent of destroying it to see how much abuse it can withstand. Until then, I like carrying the one I have to ruin in.

Cliff, I'd tell you to make the plunge and spend 20 bucks on an NRG and see what you think. If I wasn't living on the GI BILL I'd bet you'd find it satisfactory. I'll have to post a picture of the broken FF, I have one floating around somewhere...

Aren't they made out of the same stuff that MD uses in his combat sticks ?

It would never get though customs with the warnings quoted on the website.

Mad Dog makes "Combat sticks?" What the hell is that?

Just like the rest of MDstuff, probably priced way too high? Here is a better option:

Go to the Gung Ho Chuan site, don't ask me to post URL or whatever the blue letters are cause I do not know how nor care to learn tonite, look for the link to MIGStix and get a PR 24 material (unbreakable polycarbonite) stick for $32 plus shipping. It will work for long and (just as important) short range. It is also being linked to Bob Kaspar so you can bet they are good stuff.

Sticks made from a synthetic composite. The reason I brought them up was that I thought they were made out of the same material that the FFs were and thus the breaking that Chris describes above would seem to indicate a pretty sever problem with that choice unless the FF's behavior was not normal.

MD, offered the sticks awhile ago and the posts about them were positive. I think they are just round but I recall some discussion about wedges or ovals. Some digging in his forum would turn up the details.

Just like the sticks I will find lying about, right? If I need a composite stick, I can get them from MigStix, the Gung Ho chuan people for $32 at 20" long, with a forever no-break guarantee. If I can go a week without buying a knife or two, I will get a set of these. MigStix are also available in custom lengths. Material as I understand is smae as pr-24 baton or something really similar
