CS frontier: DONE!

Yes sir it is the new 2010 model. I did some file work on the head. Blunted the edges along the eye and gave a bit of an edge to the toe and heel.

Came with the longer handle. I've given the handle a bit of a taper. Overall I really like the feel and look of this hawk moreso than the TH and Norse.

That looks awesome.

It has an Elvish look to it. Rivendale would approve.

Mr Pull......i think you have done the most marvelous work on a hawk head...i have ever seen, non-production, non-laser i mean...by hand...in da house...abso -F******G-lutely Beautiful....if you want it decorated the "native" way..i'd be honored.. the handle i mean

Seriously i mean every word concerning the Hawk Head...stunning...stunning work for an individual...no we will NOT be taking warm soapy showers together...i just like your work...and have a question or two Sir, if you don't mind...

1...would the black originally on the hawk work as the block or does the finish not have the depth to block??

2...did the file work come before or after the engraving process...can it be done either way?

3....what...is a dremel stylis?...i have about 300 hundred dremel hicky doos..could you show a pic of the particular tool?...please?

4....if i draw it, pay all shipping, what would it run me to have you do the actual etching??...no filing...no nothing..i can do the rest from my wheel chair

5...and most importantly...i only have a few posts, and no-one has said anything good or bad (knock on wood) about me...I will pre-pay in full for your work...

Please reply in email...so as to not disrupt the thread...

Thanks for taking the time to consider my questions...i do think your work is the foundation of a new career should you choose to explore that avenue...

Mods...thank you for the tolerance with this post..i realize this is NOT the trade thread,,and decided to ask for a price while typing the post...thanks guys you do a great job..

God Bless

Lee

Hi Lee, thanks for the compliments. PM message put on your visitor page.

1...would the black originally on the hawk work as the block or does the finish not have the depth to block??

I doubt if the original finish would work well as resist but who knows? it's an intrigueing idea. Bigger concern for me would be that the metal under the paint is pretty rough. Pitted, etc, and that will work against the clean appearance of an etch.

2...did the file work come before or after the engraving process...can it be done either way?

I file first, then sand to smooth the metal, then etch, then brown. Filing would take off the browning.

3....what...is a dremel stylis?...

Real handy for cranking out designs as shown in the pic. I also use it for carving designs on handles, you can see some of those over on the CS trailhawk mod thread.

Finally done with this 2010 Frontier hawk. Well, pretty much done, I need to put a preserving finish on the leather and wood. But that shouldnt change appearance all that much. Watching all the great leather done by hawk brothers here inspired me to head in that direction. Fun stuff! Overall I like how things turned out and I learned a lot. Next time will do a neater job with the leather while still maintaining a 'frontier" look. Getting that overstrike guard on is a true PITA.

I've already talked about the etching work and etc on the head. I tapered the long handle and finished it with Golden Pecan. The head is so embellished, as well as the sheath, that I steered away from making the handle any more fancy.

I'm perfectly satisfied with the metal work but next go-around I'll make the overstrike guard about twice the size, and will find a way to get a closer fit with the head. I'd like a lighter color leather dye, too. Anyhow, tips and comments welcome.

Thanks folks. I'm going to order another one of these so that I get it in time to have something to work on over the holidays.

Hi Pullrich, after I finish my current project my next hawk mod is going to be a Frontier. I just got one and thanks for the inspiration. Very sharp mod.
