Throwing the fish in a cooler filled with ice is a pretty humane way to finish them off as well.
The cold slows there metabolism way down, quickly.
Way better than hanging on a stringer or suffocating in a bucket of warm water.
On the boat we'd use the cooler & ice, much safer that trying to cut a flopping fish on a rolling boat.
On the beach, I just give them the cut throat.
I really believe that a quick killed fish will taste better than one that has been allowed to flop around and expire slowly.
