There was some discussion recently about the relative weights of CS's hawk heads, so I thought I'd share what I have for reference.

These values are for the heads only, NO HANDLES:

Frontier (old style, 2005?) = 335 g
Trail (2008) = 348 g
Norse (2009, stripped, set screw in side, screw removed) = 407 g
Norse (2011, factory paint, set screw in back, in place)= 385 g

It was surprising that the Norse dropped in weight, it looks like the material around the eye is thinner.

New Frontier hawk #90FH

Total weight: 22.25 oz / 631g
Head weight: 10.63 oz / 301g
22" Handle weight: 11.62 oz / 330g

I hope others will add data.

The frontier is less then the trail? I was under the impression the trail was the lightest one.

My trail hawk's weight was 13.5 oz. Head only.

The frontier is less then the trail?

Surprised me as well. I'm also surprised that the new heads seem to be getting lighter than the old. CS saving a little money on materials I wonder, or am I just being cynical?

Yes, in the 2011 CS catalog, the frontier is listed as being lighter than the trail. The hammer poll makes a difference. From what I read the new frontier is thinner around the eye. It's still solidly made, though.
