CS Hold Out clips will the large size fit the smallest knife ?

‘bagger is still obsessing about his pocket clip.

I have a question for those who have both the Cold Steel Hold Out I I I ( the smallest one ) AND the Hold Out I ( the largest one );

are the pocket clips the same size ? Length ? Width ? Thickness of the steel the clip is formed from ?

Bottom line , after all my semi epic blabbing about modifying my clip by cutting away a third of the width of the clip
I discovered that the gap between the side of the knife and the clip had widened. This was from me repeatedly forcing it onto my thick work pants to see if it was any easier to get back off after each modification.
It was getting easier; partly because the gap was getting wider.

You can’t see it but I am now slapping my forehead with the palm of my hand.
If one of you were here you would now be administering a much deserved DOPE SLAP to the side of my head.

Honestly I wish I could then pass that highly effective and instantaneously recognizable communicade on, to the pilot of the big desk at Cold Steel.

Once I saw the big gap between the clip and the side of the knife I realized that clipping it to my shirt pocket was no longer going to keep the knife in my pocket when I bend forward.

I immediately removed the clip for the umpteenth time and carefully bent the clip a tad so it just cleared the knife side, I could slide a sheet of printer paper between with no resistance but a business card would start to drag. That was about where I had it when I adjusted the clip when I got the knife so it would work with summer weight cloths and not get a death grip on the pocket.

So now . . . guess what . . . it is getting a death grip on the lighter of the winter work pants. See last photo for example of pocket. I am not asking too much am I ? ? ? ?

Not gripping as bad after removing metal but . . . unacceptable. Mean while several of my other EDCs work fine with no mods not only with the above pants but with the thicker ones AND my tool belt pouches. AND my shirt pocket. See photo of tool belt pouch.

A nine dollar Gerber box cutter clip . . . .GOOD.

A hundred dollar Cold Steel Hold Out I I I . . . NOT GOOD . . . he has to stay at home until the weather warms up. What ? There is a problem here.

So
before I put a laniard on this other wise hard core, bad boy, fearsome cutting machine . . .
somebody please tell me if the Hold Out clip on the largest knife is longer but still thin.

Maybe I could get my mits on one. Maybe I could put it on my baby Hold Out.

I’m not so hot on the laniard.

If you have made it this far with all this yammering, you are a better man than I Gunga Din.

(and thanks for listening)

With Cold Steel's current clips, what I do, to get them more to my liking, is.

a) insert and remove a piece of 220 grit sand paper a half dozen or so times under the clip, with the business end against the G10. I would then follow it up with a fairly damp Huck towel to clean it up. To loosen the clip's tension, I'd insert a penny under the clip over night.

Ursamajor,

Thank you for your prompt and enthusiastic response.

. . . buuuuuuut . . . er . . . I have already sanded the G10 and bent 'er out.

Just for info sake the over night thing will make absolutely no dif. That is not the way spring steel behaves.
Put a penny in and in the morning she will give you back a penny in change. See "elastic deformation" (as apposed to "plastic deformation").

Any chance you might have both knives and can answer my query?

Thank You again.

From what I gather here you may have been better off just sanding the g10 right under the clip and leaving the clip bent ever so slightly so it is raised just a hair above the g10. I own a mini recon 1 and after about 2 weeks of using it I realized it was a pocket shredder and had a pocket death grip. Easiest solution was to bend the clip slightly and sand down the g10 contact area under the clip. Works wonders. I can carry this in my work pants (similar to slacks) or my carhartt ever day pants and it's a seamless transition which I barely notice. However as far as clip size I couldn't tell you. But hope this helps, If not then best of luck with finding your answer!

(EDIT: saw that after having this thread open for a little in another tab saw that someone else gave you the same response I did, sorry for the repeat)
Stay safe and happy new years

PS: looks like I answered part of my question by going to the CS web page; the larger knife (s) has a longer clip.

So
does it look to those who have both . . . will the mounting screw end of the clip on the large knife fit into the recess on the small knife ?
