CS "More Proof"

Well, considering we are talking about folders, the issue isn't the blade or the handle, but the lock itself-- the joint. The BM Axis locks you mentioned could probably hold their own, but I wouldn't trust the others.

Perhaps I'm missing something. What is it about a Cold Steel folder that makes the "lock itself-- the joint" massively stronger than similar designs produced by competitors.

The CS folders that I have handled have not struck me as particularly overbuilt or any more rugged than comparable knives. They make some quality products, but nothing worthy of the hype that they spew about them.

Anybody who expects a knife to fall apart from stabbing leather or automotive grade sheet steel has pretty low expectations for their knife.

FWIW, I have seen a Gerber Gator used as a load bearing device.

They dont stab through those items to show fail points.. they show that to show stabbing or thrusting power of the blades' design.

If we are going to get into some manufacturers design flaws... then lets start with Master of Defense making a half ass job glueing their sand paper grips to the knife handles... real high quality at a 250$ price tag. or how about spyderco.. can someone do me a favor and inform these people how truely weak their knife blades are... I have never once seen such poor knife tip design. the word crap comes to mind.... O ya lets not forget about kabar, that butt end of the handle does fall off after the "INDESTRUCTABLE " knife handle fails from a few hammer strokes.. which happens tto be what it was meant for. Every manufacurer has flaws noone is perfect. Although it seems everyone loves to take it all out collectivly on CS

I requested my "More Proof" video about 3 months ago and still never recieved it. Ahh, I don't like there knives anyway, at least not their folders. They do have a couple of fixed blades I like though.

The video is pretty nice to watch...

The knives themselves are sturdy and sharp...

They are defenitely a value for the prices we're asked to pay...

The major complaint I'm hearing is the marketing claims. The marketing hype seems to invoke a bit of rage in us because we all know better. It may not sell knives to us, but it sells to a lot of people who don't know better. However, Almost all marketing claims are built to lie a little and not all other knifemaker's claims are "more" honest that Cold Steel's. Heck, Ginsu's claims are much more far fetched and deceptive than Cold Steel's claims. Cold steel isn't telling us that crap isn't crap.

I think one would be doing themself a disservice if they refused to look at a CS knife on it's own merit because of the marketing claims.

If CS folders are so tough, why do they only have a ONE YEAR WARRANTY? CS needs LESS HYPE and a BETTER WARRANTY! Buy CS folders if you want, but I'll spend my $$ elsewhere. OTOH, after the crappy way they treated American Tomahawk Company, I don't think I will EVER buy a CS product again. IF you don't know what I'm talking about, go to the tomahawk forum. When it comes to folding knives, CS means Cheap Sh-t!

I am surprized (again) that noone mentioned swamp rat! Seen chopping a concrete block and barbed wire. You decide your own warrenty! :D

I own three Cold Steel fixed blades, but no folders and I have been VERY impressed with the ones I own. I have several points I'd like to mention

First: In my opinion, the CS knives I own are worth the money. They have a GREAT edges out of the box, get very sharp after use, and perform well when I use them (although I have not yet had to use one as a jackhammer to destroy cinderblocks like in the video) :)

Second: I also have no doubt that other reputable companies' knives could perform these tests, but I also am impressed that Cold Steel makes the video and demonstrates the limits of the knives. I'm sure Busse and other companies demonstrate their knives in a similar fashion, but I've never seen it done. I do know that my nephew bought two Spyderfaux folding knives for about 8 bucks, and I promise you that they could not stand up to these tests. I couldn't even get them questionably sharp with over 3 hours of working on the edges out of the box.

Third: In reading the forums over the last couple years several knives (fixed blades) are repeatedly mentioned survey after survey as one of the top favorites by forumites. The CS SRK. I think it speaks well of CS and the SRK to be mentioned so often by so many people who use their knives hard and compare them to so many other top quality companies.

I have no doubt that there is a good deal of hype in the Proof videos, but I have been very impressed with the ones I own, and I probably will buy more CS sometime in the future.

I'll agree that it would be nice if they had a better warranty though.

Cold Steel’s catalogs and proof video can be entertaining if you remember that it is advertising and don’t take it too seriously. I have not seen the More Proof DVD yet, but it sounds like it is entertaining too. Actually, I wish that more of the knife companies would put out catalogs and videos like Cold Steel.

It is hard too generalize about the Cold Steel products since their line up is so diverse. Personally, I judge each Cold Steel knife on its own merits and just about every one that I own has lived up to my expectations.

I would also like to see Cold Steel improve their warranty and it would be nice if they would reopen their shot lived forum they had here a few years back.
