CS Norse Hawk + 25" haft = Viking Battle Axe Perfection

I had one of those. It was terrible. The head was so warped it looked the QC guy must have been on acid that day if he thought it would pass inspection. It turned me away from Cold Steel so bad that I didn't buy anything from them for nearly a decade.

Well if they started making them again, it would be easy to improve the designe. What happened to yours?

Okay I stripped the black paint off the head and patinated it to a nice dark brownish grey just like the other one.

Unfortunately I got the same results when using the 30" CS handle. There's not much material at the end to work with and when I got it reshaped right ... it fit properly right at the very end of the handle.

So, I won't be using them anymore for handle mods. Back to the laborious work of carving sledgehammer handles.

Anyway, this new CS Norse Hawk came on a 22" handle and I decided to sand it, stain it, and remount it. It's 3" shy of my other one, but still much more preferable to the diminutive handles you usually get. Major kudos to Cold Steel for providing a more proper length handle.

I have a CS pole axe, and for a few years, I had it mounted on pick handles whittled down to fit the round eye! It is a lot of work to whittle down a pick handle! I broke two of them throwing the pole axe before mounting it on the original 6 foot handle.

I am a fan of the 22 inch handles. They are more substantial than many of the 19 inch handles.
