CS Pole ax arrived today!! How to mount???

Whats teh correct way to assemble it? No instructions in the box. My main questions are which direction does the head go on (from bottom or top) and also exactly where the langettes attach (under head itself or flush with bottom). Thanks guys. :)
 
The head goes on from the top. Langets go flush with the bottom of the head.

I put it together like this shortly after I received it.

Then I decided I didn't like it so I shortened up the handle a little more and cut the head down.

Here is a close up. I removed the welded on extension.

Total weight is ~4lbs overall length is 44 1/8"
 
What length did you end up with?? Oh... 44 1/8??

What stain is that?

Last question, what did you do to finish the head??
