CS Recon 1 Folder: Is there a limited run version in Satin or other uncoated??

I have found that some blades such as the ZT 0200 usually come in black only, but there are times when there is a limited run, or a dealer exclusive where you can get it in Satin. What about the Cold Steel Recon 1 full size folder? Any uncoated version?? I have narrowed down my next knife to either the CS Recon or the BM 551. Problem is that I am not content with the way either of them usually come. I know what I will do if get the full size Grip, but removing the coating on the CS Recon is another matter. I have removed coatings before but not with totally perfect results.

Thanks all.

Don't think so. Like you say, you can remove the coating though. That Cold Steel coating comes off pretty easy.

Powernoodle I feel the need to tell you that the image of Mr. Incredible holding up a Recon 1 Tanto just made my day!

As for uncoated Recon 1s, sadly there is no such run but on Cold Steel's AK-47s at least they have a slight stonewash finish under the coating so if you strip the coating you may have that to look forward to!

As far as I know there is no uncoated version. The coating is extremely easy to remove, however. I applied some heavy body paint and varnish remover - generic stuff available at any Home Depot or what-have-you - and it came right off of my American Lawman. No elbow grease required.

If the scales can be removed, you might want to think of a DIY stone wash also. I did one on a Spyderco Persistance with good results.

I just scraped the coating off mine and it looks like it was meant to be that way. I think I saw an online retailer that had some stonewashed or bead blasted ZT0200`S.
That would be Knifeworks. Knifeworks offers both the ZT0350 and ZT0200 in beadblast finishes.

I love how that turned out. How did you do it? Did you have to disassemble the knife and take out the blade first?

Was that a liquid or a spray? Did you apply the remover and then wash off?

MThall, I heard this method works really good. Just have it soak in liquid varnish remover for a while, and you can just wipe off all the coating.

And no, CS doesn't do sprint runs, would be nice if they did. I'd love one of their folders in higher end steel

Thanks. That sounds great.

I took mine apart and scraped the coating of all of the parts by hand. I don't like to fool with chemicals they stink and it wasn't summer when I did this. Sharpened the corner out too. Came out okay.

200 each for a reblade, I went ahead and got a spare. Good thing too, since unfortunately Demko is no longer doing reblades b/c they are a PITA to fit them.

I removed the coating off of one of mine too. All you need are a couple razor blades.

yea the coating really sucks. I used a flat screwdriver head to take it off mine (and clip too :p)
