CS Recon 1 Folder: Is there a limited run version in Satin or other uncoated??

Thanks it wasn't easy. I think their latest DLC is on there pretty good. It took me a few days - about 3 hours a day to find & remove every bit of it and then re-profile the tip (that wasn't to bad) with a DMT magna guide set which rounded that corner out of there easily. The Aus 8 takes a mirror polish after going from coarse to xx-fine a strop. It's still very sharp.

Well again it looks very good. You should consider working on other pointed bevel tantos in your collection. Got a Hogue EX01? :D

No but I really wanted one until I found out that they're real blade heavy and there were some complaints that some guys developed vertical blade play. :(

Ouch...even after tightening the pivot?
I think vertical blade play would be more a function of the button lock than the pivot. Sadly, vertical blade play can rarely be remedied by someone other than the manufacturer or some other bladesmith.

Was that a liquid or a spray? Did you apply the remover and then wash off?

I used the stuff that is a gel-like substance...I'm sorry, but I can't remember the exact brand off the top of my head. I just painted it on with a brush, let it sit for a spell, wiped it off with paper towel, and then rinsed it thoroughly in water.

Here's how it turned out:

There's a neat stonewashed type finish lurking under the black coating!

That looks great. I sprayed something that was like a foam, then waited about 30 minutes, then poured boiling water over it. I couldn't believe it but almost nothing happened at all. Did you remove the blade for this, or leave it assembled and just carefully brush on the gel?

MTHall - I did an Izula about a year ago and it took about a couple of goes to get it clean. I used a can of spray foam remover from Ace Hardware. Maybe Dorito Monk will check back in but I'd wait longer and have a couple of spray coats before moving along to a different brand. Good luck!

I took the blade out first just to make sure I got all the stuff out of the pivot area and I didn't want to take any coating off of the liners.

IIRC I left mine sit for several hours and used a pretty generous gob of the stuff on both sides, but the time might depend on the specific product. I dug out the can of stuff I used...it's called 'Circa 1850 Heavy Body paint and varnish remover'. Hope that helps!
