Anyone have any experience with the Scout? I have one, but haven't really tested it in the wilderness yet (did split a few pieces of pine & then peel an orange with it, though.

I love mine. It is a decent chopper in a pinch, and very easy to put a great edge on. I love to carry it when we hike in the mountains. There always seems to be a use for it, not too big, not too small...

The sheeple look aghast at me when I pull it out, which of course gives it high intrinsic value.

I have one. It has great balance (not as "blade-heavy" as the longer Trail Master Bowie...). It is a very stout knife. (I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to break it under "normal useage".).

I WOULD like to see Cold Steel come out with a Recon Scout in "stainless steel", 'tho...

I really like my Scout, and have had mine for about 7 years. It is still very sharp, and with a good finish after some small chopping task. I have to say it is one of my top ten fixed blades in my collection.

Thanks,

I too like my scout. Haven't used it hard either. But it comes on every camping and hiking trip!
My only problem is that I don't like black blades, the way I usd to. Someday I may get up the courage to sand the black off...

I bought one from Lynn Thompson at the Pomona Gun Show, about six years ago. I've used it fairly hard, in the boonies, without any harm to it. Also used it to gut and clean a mule deer I killed in Utah. I don't care for blades that large for hunting knives, but wanted to see what it would do. Worked fine, although one has to be pretty careful with a knife that size when "inside" a deer.

I like the balance and used it for the regular camp chores, including chopping some two and three inch dry branches for firewood.

Easy to sharpen. it's a very good knife for humping around out in the boonies. L.W.

Thanx much for the replies. It's good to know the CS wasn't full of it when they wrote the ad copy for the Scout. If experienced knife knuts go for it, I can't go wrong.

There is a good core of CS knives that you'll likely see around forever!! Well, not forever, but they stick around because they are great knives. The Recon Scout is a good sized carbon steel bowie. I just got the Bush Ranger in the mail today, and I'm loving it! The handle is fantastic, though I have a pile of micarta and it may end up being used as a Bush Ranger handle! The SRK and Recon Tanto are two others that are champs in the dollar to performance category. All 4 of these knives are keepers.
