I was just wondering which knife do you guys think is better, the Recon Tanto or Spec Plus' tanto w/ an 8in blade. I would like to know if there equal in quality, because if they are Im going to get the cheaper model. Thank You.

I ran into the same kind of dilemma. I liked the CS Recon Tanto but wasn't wanting to spend the full price. So I bought the factory 2nd model. I saved a bundle and got a knife that really performs.
For the life of me, I can't see what the factory saw that made them toss this baby into the reject pile.

At 50 bucks it's gotta be one of the best deals I've ever gotten for a knife and sheath of this caliber.

Try Botach.com and see if they still carry the REcon for 50 bucks. Great knife, feels solid, and has a better handle than the Spec Plus.

I vote for the CS as well (the handle feels better). The CS Recon Tanto also comes sharp as hell out of the box. Freaking "little" SOB gave me gash the first time I played with it.

Another vote for the CS Recon Tanto. You will not be disapointed with this knife.

Here's another vote for cold steel, but I'll tell you why I think so.

Carbon V beats Ontario's 1095 any day of the week. I don't think anyone will dispute me on that. The edge on the Recon Tanto also has a gentle curve along all but its tip, great for actual cutting. I actually prefer the handle on the Ontario, but that's a personal preference.

The Ontario Spec Plus line is good, but for the small price increase, the CS is much better.

RECON Tanto for me! For the money you can't beat it. I carried one for several years and loved it.

Have to go with the rest of the guys here, Recon Tanto is the better one. Factory seconds from Cold Steel are the best way to go if your looking at the financal aspect.
