CS Spartan: Suddenly blade won't close. No abuse but just suddenly won't close.

I had a triad lock stick on me, but it was after I did my own version of the absolute proof video and spine whacked the knife about 100 times and did about 100 over strikes, after that the knife would randomly get stuck open.

I have never had this problem before. The blade is locked tight in the open position. Any ideas? Thanks to all.

Call them and send it in, they will treat you right.

DO NOT email them, calling is the best way.

Send it to me. I have worked on many Spartans.

I've had a few problems with my Spartan, but it's gotten better with use. In fact, it's Tri-Ad locking system is quite a bit more than just a "lock back." My Rajah I and II knives are superb and they're nearly as strong as fixed blades. As for your Spartan, you shouldn't have a problem "faking" a receipt (you can do it with an Amazon.com receipt). Your knife is not a counterfeit and it's still under warranty.

I'm not sure I would take it apart without having a person who knows at least a little about knives. The worst that can happen is that you'd have to put it in a bag and then put it in a pouch and send it to Cold Steel.

Have you made any progress on getting the knife's action working?

Just take it apart and clean it. Seriously, Cold Steel's Triad knives are very easy to disassemble and reassemble. If that doesn't solve it then send it into warranty.

Put on a pair of gloves and press like heck. The Spartan that I had needed the lock pushed all the way down. Felt like I was going to blow my guts out playing with that knife. Loosen the pivot and jiggle the blade while doing it.

It is probably to do with the lock moving in to a new spot that needs polished out with a few cycles. Same type of thing happens with liner-locks if you use it on a really good, hard session or snap out the blade playing around with it a bunch of times. If you waved it open several times it might have instigated it.

I don't agree with CS lockbacks or Tri-AD folders not being good, have used them a ton in past 16 years. A good squeeze on the lockbar and slight pressure on the back of the blade with other hand should make it come out - then do it again a few times to smooth out it's new home, loosen pivot if needed/make it easier like mentioned above.
