Well, I orded this guy tonight, should be here next week. I was looking for something in the style or my riflemans hawk, but light and more packable. Plus my Masterhunter won't feel so lonley:D.

Cant wait to try her out, give a nice little review as well.

i have had a master hunter in carbon V for about 13 years. its still going strong. great knife!

Cool! I've had a Rifleman's hawk for a number of years now. I packed it in place of my 14" Gerber hatchet for a few trips, but I found it to not work as well as the Gerber. Since CS introduced the Trail hawk, I've been eyeing it up. Let us know how it works for you!

Congrats! Does this mean the Marbles is on hold?

Is for now, I need some more choppers, have enough knives:D.

I have been into 'hawks alot now, their something about them that just chatches my eye. Plus I just love the weight and fast movement they provide, may even try throwing this guy.

It's a nice lightweight hawk. I got mine 2 weeks ago. It had a horrible grind, but a couple minutes with a bastard file and the problem was solved. :) Easy to swing, I have considered drilling a lanyard hole because sometimes I think I am going to lose my grip. More for chopping. :)

Oh, for throwing it, I found that I like it better as a little camp "ax", it does throw, but if you really want a thrower, get the cold steel shovel. Way more versatile when throwing. It also digs pretty good too. :)

Hey fonly have you used a hawk on wood yet? seems like with that type of head and long narrow handle that they would want to twist in the hand making chopping more of a chore, how do they handle vs a good hand axe. TheCold Steel Hawks sure look good and the price is not bad either

Yeah, I have. I used a riflemans hawk for quite a while, a fantastic axe, though its true a die hard axe may work better, the weight is a major factor for me.

Hey Fonly
Thanks for the info I've had my eye on the CS hawks for awhile now,my interest stem's not so much from a weight saving's point but from a maintenance point. I think in a true survival situation the hawks look easier to repair than would be the case with a GB or Snow and Nealley
Penobscot Bay The slight cutting advantage of the axe might be weighed against the hawks ability to make another handle in the woods with no other tools other than the hawk axe head it self which is not the case with the Gransfors Bruks or S&N?? NOT that either would brake just playing what if.:D:D

Yeah, that little screw was on the Riflemans hawk. I dont even know if it did anything. All I know is a ended up putting a wedge in the top the shaft anyways to keep the head from coming off.
