Has anyone tried the CS Trailmaster with their new SK-5 carbon steel blade? The price seems resonable but I don't know anything about the steel. Thanks.

I've wondered the same thing. How about the fit a finish of the new/chinese made one? Is it comparable to the US made/Carbon V version?

The Kraton is a little harder and more durable. Fit and finish seems to be as good as the US made ones. The steel doesn't get quite as sharp or hold the edge as long as Carbon V. Also it seems to rust a lot faster than Carbon V. They are considerably cheaper than the US made ones were and if I needed a Trailmaster I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it. Since I still have 5 Carbon V Trailmasters I wont be buying one anytime soon.

Just to let you guys know my experience with SK5 is with the new Cold Steel Gurka Kukri's. I have seen the new Trailmasters but not used one.

ISTR SK5 is pretty much 1070 or 1075. The performance of the Bushman in SK5 is pretty good.

Thanks -- Good to know.

I have an old Trailmaster with the Stag handle. I don't lioke the Stag grip for use in the field so I Have thought about getting the New model with the Kraton grip.
