You know me . . . I like folders with thicker handles (not so tall but wide) and lots of gription on the handle.

I discovered this knife, third one down in the photos, that is just too inexpensive for how good it is and couldn’t help making a little noise about it. An old stand by that hardly anybody seems to talk about here. Maybe they did years ago.

I like it. I'm kind of surprised just how good this is.

I ignored it until recently but a couple months ago there was a modding thread and I finally woke up and payed attention.

Some have said the texture pattern on the handle is unattractive. I like it well enough and find the handle on it’s brother the Colossus to be FAR uglier.

Took it to work today for the first time and it performed well. I didn’t cut a lot of stuff but over all . . . carrying in my pocket and using it I have to give it a . . . “Good Stuff” . . . so far.

It’s big(ish) . . . larger than what I normally carry out into the regulated world (see the top two in photo) . . . but light and not awkward. For the price I am VERY happy with my knife purchase.

There is a some what similar knife that I was considering that is a new knife to the scene in the last year or so but this Voyager is a third the price and is better appointed.

The Cold Steel Large Voyager :
6061 heat treated aluminum liners . . . high tech!
bronze bushings . . . when there are too many teflon washers turning up in knives of more than three times the price.

Blade steel CTS-BD1 . . . my first . . . still bites thumb nail after some significant use. Can’t say that for every knife I have carried through a day.

Feel free to say why you love it or hate it.

Pound for pound and price wise it's hard to find a better strong beater knife than the voyager. It'll take almost anything you can throw at it and do so for years. CS do a good job on the heat treat of the BD1 steel as well.

I love the voyager series! Just bought the large tanto in BD 1 to add to the pack. They are extremely underrated IMO and I think one of the best, if not the best, dollar for dollar blade you can buy. They are do it all, tough as nails knives that can mold into just about any role a knife can be asked to. The ergos are also perfect for me, with both the large and XL versions melting into my hand, even better than the recon 1. I especially love the XL clip point version, its like carrying a folding bowie knife that fits discreetly in the pocket. Also, I have used this version extensively and can tell that the BD1 steel holds an edge significantly longer than the AUS 8 steel of the older versions. I have many more expensive knives but if I had to keep just one it would have to be the voyager, its just such a versatile blade.

I have a large clip point Voyager that I leave in my coveralls that I wear when I feed the animals. I carried it today but only for half an hour or so. I have been thinking about getting an XL... Like you guys said, for the money you can't beat it... and for the the money your don't mind beating it.

Edit: Has anyone played with a medium? How does it feel in the hand? The large and XL feel great. Is it as sturdy as the larger two? The medium is stupid cheap ($25ish).

i have most voyager models, old and new, and I have one of them on me at least 25% of the year.
I especially like the older models (carrying the mighty X2 today) and the ergos on all of them, gotta love the Rawles and XL Voyager as well as their excellent cutting geometry.

These are made to perform and last very very long time for a budget price. Can't beat them for the money!

I have the medium tanto and clip point. They feel great in the hand as the Voyager ergos are always spot on. If you're looking for a beefy yet lightweight blade for EDC the mediums can't be beat. I also have a large clip and xl tanto, but that xl is just too big to carry most days for me.

I carried one "medium size tanto" Voyager yesterday :-) I totally agree Mick. They are hard to beat for the price. There are many higher end knives I'd put the Voyager up against any day.

I have an itty bitty one with the wild S-shaped recurve. I hated it on sight, but it felt great in hand and I enjoyed using it when I carried it. I haven't carried it in ages, though. I'll have to dig it out.

I dug it out, and switched it into my pocket, booting the ZT 0454 I was carrying and it took clipping it to remember the issue I had with it. Great little knife, very comfortable handle and I have no problem with the wild recurve blade, but it's a pocket shredder.

Here's the fugly little bugger (sorry, it was dark and my cell phone struggled):

I have a CS El Hombre that has a blade like that. I didn't think I would like it but turned out I love it. That curve in the blade seems to give it more cutting power for less effort imo for things like rope, wire etc

In use it works great, it gives it a lot of belly for a small blade. It's definitely also an odd-looking little knife, though.

Yeah. And that blade shape isn't the easiest thing in the world to sharpen either lol

I would actually like to get ahold of the little guys but the only ones I can find are half serrated. I have the XL Vaquero that I carry the least of my Voyagers, and honestly I just got it to complete the trio. The small one however looks like a great little work knife with the recurve. Aw hell heres another pic.

Fully serrated XL Vaquero . One of the best SD folders , period . I reserve mine for emergencies and carry other blades for utility .

It looks like the only difference in the Voyager with this style blade and the El Hombre is the handle

The Voyager and Recon series are both outstanding. Solid value. Bought a large Voyager tanto for my brother, he loves it. My wife carries a large Recon tanto in her purse.

Hey Bagger,
How about a comparison between the GB and large Grip sometime. They seem about the same size.

El hombre was the name of that particular size Voyager with the Vaquero blade. There were multiple sizes in the old Voyager series, each with a different name.

Ooohhh OK. So El hombre IS part of the voyager line. I never knew that. Thanks!
