Well we're back from the gathering and despite the lack of attendees we had ourselves a great time. Bears Breath and Siguy ruffed it out Friday night in the rain and I joined them Saturday at 0700. MP510 also showed up Saturday. Saturday was actually a nice day and we had a great time showing off knives, practicing some skills, collecting dry firewood (was not easy), fishing(also not easy), and the general B.S.ing around. I'll get to the pics and narate as I go through. I hope you enjoy.

Here's my sleeping arangements, which again proved great in heavy rain:thumbup:

We were on a small Island and traveling back and forth to the main land by canoe was not easy. With all the rain the River was flowing fast and hard, going down stream was easy, but up stream was a PIA. When MP510 he found out the hardway; we got pushed down stream a lil, and had to jump out and walk the canoe up river, which is exactly what I had to do, only Simon was with me and took the plunge so I could stay dry:eek::o:)
Sorry no pics of that:o

On to firewood. There wasn't alot of dead standing wood at all on the island, and all the wood on the ground was just soaked all the way through and rotting. We did manage some hemlock, but it wasn't enough. The only other standing deadtree we found was an Oak:eek: Man this thing was like chopping through cement, thankfully Simon and Brett had saws with them. After we knocked it down, we took turns cutting it into pieces.

Still more coming

Simon had sharpened up a bunch of my blades and convexed them. I just had to test them out, and they shave more than just the hair off my arm:eek:

I went fishing for a lil bit and it was tuff. Current real strong and not alot of places to fish from shore. I did figure them out, but I lost more than I caught. Either way I managed a couple in about an hour and a half of fishing.
Simon never gutted a trout or eaten one fresh, so he was in for a treat.

Oh and in case you wanted to know; You can boil water out of a glass snaple bottle, coors light cans melt quick, as do stailess steel pots, and empty snapple bottles:D

Sorry that I couldn't make it up this time guys. Looks like a great time.
Tony- you're going to have to teach me to fish for trout sometime.

Thanks all!

We all had a good time and it was a nice area to camp in. The sound of the river and crickets at night were very peaceful and lulled me to sleep. The sound of rain woke me a lil after, but I'd rather be awoken by the sound of rain than by the fee of it; which was kind of how Simon woke. I really admire Simon for sticking to his guns and trying to find a working shelter with with extreme minimal equipment. We all figured the rain would miss us so Simon opted to sleep in the open by the fire with just his space blanket, thankfull he had his poncho set up not to far and was able to stay dry with that shelter he made.

On a different note, I forgot to mention the machete Siguy made, it was the same one he and Theo tried to destroy at WAR. Thankfully they failed and I got to play with it. Although it looked like it's been to hell and back Simon had a great edge on it. It chopped extremely well and the balance as great. I nliked it so much I asked him to make me 1 with a 16" blade so I can take to Peru on the RAT Jungle course next October. Here's a pic of the blade and a steel bolt Simon chopped through:eek:

Brett I can't wait to see some of your pics, I know you got some good ones bro.

Speaking of Brett; those who had the pleasure of meeting him the last time and have experienced his generosity of bringing fine and exotic meats; know he would show up with some good stuff. This time it was Buffalo dogs ans some delicious sausage as well. He brought enough to feed a small Army, but the 3 of us did a good job on it:thumbup:

JW, yeah bro I am loving my hammock:thumbup:

Sharpeye, anytime you want to go fishing let me know, but I am far from a professional on trout. Matter of fact, I used the lure Kestela recommended. A lil Phoebe. That is always key when fishing new waters; ask someone with experience on that body of water;) Thanks Kev

Man, I missed this. Great pics. Looks like fun. Camping on an island is something I always wanted to do, but here in the south the bugs that swarm in those island thickets are ravenous!!

Glad you like the pics bro. The bushy jr was a joy to use and the nessy at 3/32 made cleaning the lil trout so easy. You should make me 1 in stainless for my saltwater quarry;)

You know the supriing thing about the weekend were the lack of mosquitos, 1 application od deet early in the morning was all I needed to keep them at bay all weekend.

now that looks like a fun trip guys...:D i wish i was there...:o great pics tony...
