Hi all-

Just wondering if anyone owns the CheaperThanDirt 'Mil-tec Mountain Pack'?

Looks like a neat little daypack. I was looking at the Pygmy Falcon II since it's cheap on the web, but looks like it's just so tiny (exp on my taller frame).

The mountain pack looks simple and rugged, and cheap. I'm mainly concerned with it's size, and how it 'wears'.

Anyone happen to have any pics? Amount of gear it holds for you? Will the side pockets manage a Nalgene type bottle or GI canteen?

Thanks much for anyone who has info (and pics!) !

Spooky,

I almost bought one of those a while back, but I think that bag is a copy of an old German (?) model so I have been keeping my eyes open in the army/navy stores. I think Longbow has this style pack in his avatar. I'll be interested in what people say too.

I've seen that original pack online and like the looks of it more, but it's sold out at most of the main stores, and runs about $25 to $30 at other vendors (this one is just $15).

I had one
It is black instead of the regular od green and the water proof material on the bottom is smooth instead of the rough texture of the original. Nice bag but the original is better and cheaper. CTD used to have them and they can still be found in many other places.

the original is in longbows avatar

it has a large square inside pocket that fits the german sleeping pad which folds up square and doubles as a sort of fram for the pack
the pads are hard to find though but the german army pack and pad are a great combo

I have the original german model I purchased at Cabela's. I use it constantly, packed enough stuff in it for a road trip to CA and on the flight back it fit in the overhead bin in the jet. It has also carried spare clothes for hunting trips and I have used it on overnight campout. So it will work for urban and wilderness both.

It is a copy of a german pack, you can get it at www.cheaperthandirt.com
Friend of mine got one there. I'm looking into one as well.

That's what I was looking at first up top, they are (and have been for a while) sold out both at CTD and at SG. Found another vendor (gotta hunt for the site) but the price there is $25. Still not bad, but wondering if it's worth almost double the price of the knock off.

I just bought one. It's a deal for the cost. I could practically fit 2 Pygmy Falcon packs into it. I'm not fond of black and it needs to be waterproofed, but that's the only negatives I have on it for now.

I got the orignal about a year ago paid for it $10. Compare to the new packs out there it wont compare in comfort. But on the other side I carried about 50lb of rocks in it on a hike. I needed some rocks in a particular size so had to hike to find them.. It carried it with no problem for a few miles in very rough terain. Compare to the new packs it would outlast them all.IN size wise i think its around 2,800. When ever i go ride my motorcycle and need to go to the store i would fill it up with no problem. The copy is not as good but its o.k. I dont think it would last as long. Will i buy another one yes i would and actualy planing on it maybe this weekend. I need another BOB Cant think of a better one.
