Pipe dream? My point/question is regarding what Spyderco (new) knives we might expect to see Carpenter steel on. I guess some models are more likely to be produced with new or different steels (e.g. Military). However, I'm specifically wondering about the new Paramilitary 2 and CTS-XHP. While I like the new sprint Manix 2 with that steel, I think it might be a little too big for me when I consider the length of the cutting edge (please don't flame me for this, as it is just my opinion and I'm not trying to force it on anyone). But I really want to try this steel soon, and I'm hoping it will eventually end up in a sprint run of some other knife, preferably a Para 2. Any thoughts on that, or has anyone heard something about which knives might be paired up with CTS-XHP?

I haven't heard anything but a Para 2 iteration with CTS-XHP has a likely ring to it.

There's been no official word, to my knowledge, of what steel type the Para 2 will be released with. I think Spyderco has a limited amount of Carpenter steel. I'm eagerly anticipating the Para 2 as well and hope that it has similar sprint runs that the Manix 2 has had.

Sal has said that CTS-XHP is a stainless D2 steel. I think he's right - after all, he is a knife guru. Still, it's still too early for knife owners that have received the new Manix 2 sprint runs to provide thorough feedback. Once we have thorough cut tests and more experienced users, like Deacon/Yablonowitz/Mr Blonde/Mr Dagon/etc., offer their reviews, it might be a bit before we see CTS-XHP again. That's just my thoughts.

I'd like to see CTS-XHP a lot more tested before I'm calling for it in a Para 2. What what I've read so far it doesn't seem much different in performance than S30V. If I were dreaming for a sprint Para 2, I'd want S90V, S110V, M4, etc. Something much different and more exotic. S30V is still very near the top of my favorite steels.

It's been awhile since I held the paramilitary, but it had an even worse blade to handle ratio than the Manix 2. If a short blade and long handle is your concern then I think you're looking to the wrong knife.

The Paramilitary 2 has a longer blade

But even the current Paramilitary I find to be so much more manageable than the Manix 2. Yes, it does have a somewhat large handle to blade ratio, but it is still more streamlined than the Manix 2. Plus its blade is not leaf shaped and therefore has less steel between edge and spine... it isn't so broad.

All my whining has nothing to do with the ergonomics, which are fantastic... up there with the Captain and Horseman as the best I've had yet. It is when folded for pocket carry that I could see myself having issues with the Manix 2 being a bit on the bulky side. But I haven't even carried it yet, so...

I brought this up b/c I considered selling my CTS-XHP Manix 2 in hopes of somewhere down the road another "thinner" knife (e.g. Para 2) would sport this steel.

I'm very excited to see the steel choice for the Para 2. Debating between the para 1 and para 2 currently.

My only hope in a para2 is orange and or translucent green g10. Love that g10 on the leafstorm just cant bring myself to one.

Would anyone be interested in seeing some sort of Damasteel (RWL34 & ATS-34 I believe?) I may be wrong on the combo, but I do know they use RWL34. That may make for an interesting and somewhat collectible knife.

Absolutely.

I'm hoping for 154cm steel with a street price of under $100.

That would be pretty sweet, even though I love CPM-S30V.

I doubt Spyderco will do that, however. The Para is one of their AFI models and as such, AFI's will expect cutting edge steels used (the standard being CPM-S30V).

I'd be keen to try out the CTS-XHP steel, and the Para has always been my 'go to" work knife. I wont be buying a Manix 2 again as even the CFS90V couldn't shift my D2 Para from my pocket. S90V is the steel the Para has always deserved, I really hope we get to see this happen.
