Hi
Here in Safat an ancient stone town 800 meters in the Upper Galilee Hills
We have started a cub scout group
A bunch of enthusiastic kids
The sub title of Scouting for Boys is
A Handbook for Instruction in Good Citizenship through Woodcraft
The first survival skill we teach, and they internalize, is the Scout Law
Map reading their moral compass
I am teaching them three core skills:
My first focus is for them to be able to use a knife safely
Just ordered 8 Mora Basic 511 in carbon from Benjamin with his special finish, a very sharp spine
I have shown a selection of different knives and axes and saws
they liked!
Last trip out, they were battoning into slivers, 2" rounds with the Moras
Feathersticks needs a lot of motor control
They are getting the hang of it, and also the leaders and fathers
We then set a fire using all the split wood
Hot dogs, marshmallows, and preboiled potatoes wrapped in foil
An other evening, they all put up their own tents from home
We then played with different tarp set ups with a DD 3x3
Next we will make shelters from painters thick drop cloth plastic, a broom stick and string
Wilderness and Survival skills
Having fun going it
