Cuda Maxx 5.5 Mods?

................but a disease I will gladly bear!:D With a name like Gadget how could you resist taking it apart?;)

i have had a MOD knife done at BC, and it had some polished out places were i had rebeveled it, and the coating is , well, almost clear on those spots - really need to send it back to BB it i think, but doing the blade by BC, w/out BB, i dont think would look good, could be wrong, but prob would be better to BB it. i really am thinking of doing mine, i will try and post some pics in a month or so, when/if i get it done, might just put the $$ towards a real maxx......

FWIW,

greg

Greg, when you say clear does that mean clear, is there no darkening of the steel in that area? I wonder how the new Diamond Black(?) coating will look? I have the MAXX polished out about to the point of stopping and beginning on something else:eek: so I may just leave it polished as it looks pretty wicked that way:cool: :D

I feel like Harley Davidson.
The Custom Maxx's being made are sweet.
To take the small cross pins out of the frame, make a small rod that is smaller than the thread id. Put it in the stud over a hole in your bench. Then tap it out!
I use a dull old drill for this process!

Remember you have to make a small rod to re-assemble the pin back into place. I use a piece of copper rod that is a bit smaller than the pin head to tap it back into place until it bottoms out.

Hope this helps!

hey artsig, yes it is not dark at all - ya can clearly see where it was polished out from rebeveling/finish BB, very distinguishable, and much much lighter. the coating BC used was whatever there std coating was last feb or march, the new is prob better, but darrel told me that the coating offered some protection like that but didnt darken the steel like it was BB, so, i would talk to darrel (if ya can contact him, i have been trying since may lol, hello darrel, give me a shout) and make sure ya know what its gonna look like. it will not be dark i dont think unless the new stuff is much diff than the old.

Need the number!

The boron will make the frame a dark chocolate color if you bead blast first.
I think bodycote will blast it for you first if you request it.
If the blade is bead blast you will get a dark matt color.
If it is polished you will get a black chrome color.
Bodycoat is adding chrome under the boron now days for added stain
resistance.

I just finished fileing 5 grooves perpendicular to the handle slabs on the back of the handle for a thumb grip. I like it. I used a round file and only went as deep as the bevel on the handle. I also spaced them about 1/16" apart.

They provide the grip I was looking for and are not too sharp that they bather my thumb like others have. I wanted to run the grooves up the blade guard but the d2 is way too hard for a file.

I wish I had a camera but I'm saving for an anniversary Harley!

Gadget54,

I totally agree with you! The tool mark on the guards looks cheap and it's not what I expect at this price level!

So since I have justed fixed the clip with the loose screws (put in 3 brass rivets), next project would probably be to use my Dremel to fix this tool marks. On one side of my knife, it looks like somebody started to remove the marks. But then lost interest and let it be like that...? :barf:

Then I have been thinking the same way- the top guard should have a file work on it- since I have MANY times slipped on the guard and been unsuccessful to completely open the blade. A good 'flip' makes my day! :D

Regards,

Jorgen
