The stones that come with the 204 work perfectly for the Maxx. The diamond rods are expensive and really only needed if you plan on reprofiling a lot of blades. For that purpose they are great.
I find the Maxx thin profile edge a joy to resharpen and love the cutting edge you can get with the D2 steel.
Both the knife and the sharpener are quality products that perform.

Roshi is spot on.....I've been home sharpening my MAXX's with the regular Spyderco 204 set up since we introduced the knives. I DO, however like the diamond rods for re-profiling knives, and repairing damaged blades.
