Just got one of these from Roger at Knifeworks. It is a Cuda MAXX, that is for sure. Five and 1/2 inches of pointed D-2 steel with one edge sharp as a razor! The deep grooves that run in the middle and then on the upper part of the blade look really cool and well done as is the blade itself, as the grinds are evenly done on both sides. Action and lockup are just like the original MAXX. I did notice that the spearpoint blade is a satin finished blade and not the stonewash of the clip point. All in all just another winner for the folks at Camillus!

Spearpoint????!!!!!..... or do you mean the new dagger Max? I would be truly happy if they came out with a spearpoint Max.:p

Guys,
DDR makes a Stiletto MAXX[also refered to as a DAGGER] AND a spearpoint. The Stiletto has a blade that is ground like a double edge knife, but only sharpend on one side. That is the knife that we have reproduced in our collaboration.

So repeat after me.....CUDA MAXX STILETTO:D

Okay.........stilspearpoint....stilleearpoint........stilletopoint! Allright there you go!!:D :D

YES!!!!! I just happend to look on the forums and saw that Camillus released the Maxx in spear point. Oh, this is a MUST have. I have the bowie/clip point and I love the knie. ???Question??? for the Camillus people, any chance that they will reproduce the D. Ralph Maxx with the 7 1/2 inch blade ?????????? That would be very nice for big knife nuts like myself.

The new model is actually based on the custom "dagger" version and not on the spearpoint. The overall blade shapes are very similar, but the grinds are quite different. The dagger is still a single-edged blade, like the spearpoint, but it has a false edge along the top instead of a full-width spine.

I suspect the spearpoint is better as a slicer while the dagger has better point penetration, but the differences should be fairly small in both cases.

In any case, the new "stiletto" is a very elegant design that should stand up to serious use as well as its "bowie" sibling. Mine should be in the mail by now. :D

nonbox: My guess is that it won't ever drop to the same price as the Maxx Bowie. If I remember correctly SRP on the Bowie was $199 and SRP on the Stiletto is $249. Which is not to say that it won't come down a little bit more, at least as the really cut-throat discounters get ahold of it.

This is a question/questions for you Will, will there be a version/option of this knife with both edges fully sharpened? Secondly, if the secondary edge is left unsharpened oft, the manufacturer does it in such a way that sharpening the 'other' side makes the blade look out of 'kilter' usually because there was the desire to make all the lines match up out of the box. Put another way there aught to be slightly more steel on the unsharpened side than the sharpened side so when you have removed stock they are the same. Does this make sense?

Also how much removal is required to get the edge sharp? This new D2 is supposed to be a removal monster due to wear resistance.

Looks great by the way! I really want one to put through my hotdog/mushroom can test!:)

General,
You don't want to sharpen the top of the blade on the CUDA MAXX STILETTO as the top of the blade is exposed when the knife is in the closed position.....that could be rough on you pockets:rolleyes:
