This morning I paid a visit to one of my favourite knife shops and there it was....the CUDA Maxx. OH MY GOD! were the first words I uttered when I saw it. As soon as the shop attendant let me see the knife I knew it had to come home with me. I had seen pictures of this knife before, but seriously speaking, no pictures can accurately represent what an exceptional knife this is. I simply cannot believe I put off buying this knife for so long! In the 7 years that I have been "into" knives, this is the one production knife that has impressed me the most. In a word, it's amazing. My hat is off to Camillus and Darrel Ralph for such a masterpiece. For anyone seriously into knives, the CUDA Maxx is a must to own.

And now that you've found it you will have to get a stilleto point one also. I've had a buy'sell relationship with the Cuda MAXX and I don't know why. The one I have now is as sweet a piece as I've ever had from Camillus in the MAXX line. It is a clip point with serrations but it has the best lockup of the ones I've had, not that their lockup wasn't great, and the blade is completely centered. Both these things will make or sink a knife for me be it production or custom. In fact the Cuda MAXX is the reason why I didn't keep the custom Aftershock I had purchased. The Camillus is so close to the custom version of Madd Maxx that I couldn't justify the cost difference between the Camillus and the Aftershock. I know the Aftershock is a different knife but it is the same basic concept with big slabs of titanium and a healthy 5.5" blade. The only difference betweeen the custom and production vewrsion of the Maxx's is the thickness of the titanium and blade with the production versions being thinner by about .010" in handle and blade.

Enjoy that Cuda MAXX el cid, I know I do mine!

Thanks Art. I was able to take a look at the Stilleto Maxx, absolutely gorgeous, but I couldn't stay away from the clip point version. I was also wondering just how close the Cuda Maxx was to D. Ralph's handmade models, but you clarified it. I can't put this baby down for a minute!

Yeah the Cuda Maxx sure is something. I had to be very patient waiting to get mine because I had it sent straight over to Dirk's from the dealer. Generally, I don't like folders at all. The only exceptions were the Cold Steel VG and the Emerson Commander, but I even sold those. The Maxx after having some mods done is the only folder I personally think is worth having. It's by far better than both the Commander and the VG and has all the features that made those 2 knives appealing to me.

The Maxx is big, strong, quick and it looks great.

Darrel and Camillus really worked very closely on this one! They wanted it to be right! The only reason the current CUDA Maxx's don't have the thicker Ti handles is due to availability. Camillus couldn't get it in enough quantity for regular production.

So this means earlier CUDA Maxx's had thicker handles than the ones currently available? Do you know when the switch occurred? Ie., knives made/shipped after _________ date have thinner handles?

Just got my maxx today (jan 8 03 ) Must agree. ITs one awsome knife!!!!! Is it legal in PA?? Also camillus really needs to make a smaller version with same clip point tip.. The stilleto tip looks more like a weapon to alot of non knife folks.

I believe the very first run was the only one to have the thicker handles.

I believe the lack of sufficient commercial quantities of the thicker Ti also contributed to the delay in getting the Cuda Maxx out.
