Huh? People are having trouble opening a MAXX? I find the quick-flik mechanism actualy far easier than the thumbstud approach. Most thumbstud knives are made for people with bigger thumbs than mine, so I can't realy seem to reliably open them, and I also have a fear of cutting my thumb if it slips while I'm opening one of those.
With the MAXX I just pull the flipper, flip my wrist in the direction of blade rotation, brutaly reverse the wristflip direction and CLICK, one open MAXX ready for action. I don't have to rotate my wrist for more than five to ten degrees; hardly noticable. The key is not how much you swing the blade to open; blade inertia will keep it going pretty far, but the explosive reverse movement is the whole trick to this knife: it helps the blade in the last few degrees before the framelock engages.
My pivot pin is fastened pretty tight too - I hate lateral movement on folders and find it safer if the blade is harder to accidentaly open - but still find it real easy to open a MAXX.
I love the knife; it's one of those things that you can give to anyone to play with for 5 minutes after demonstrating how it works, and they immediately get it. The real challenge is in getting the knife back once they start playing with it. It's highly addictive.
