I really wish Case would stop angling the blades downward.
I prefer a downward cant to a cant toward the spring. Fortunately I have an extra of this Utica, so I can be philosophical about it.

Sorry. Here's a peanut:

I initially found the downward cant somewhat odd looking. In actual daily use I've found I notice no difference between the canted Case and the uncanted Schrade 12OT. Only ever think about it when I'm just fiddling around with (admiring) one of them.

The only time an over-extended blade is preferable is if using it to stab, the force helping the blade to stay open. I could see an advantage to a punch blade being over-extended. If you ever notice the spey blade on a stockman or sowbelly is very under-extended, but as John said, this brings the work closer to you and improves the angle of the cut.

Just took a comparison pic of a Pinched Peanut and a Case Peanut. There definitely is a difference, which I never noticed before. I don't think I have a preference, other then the more the blade spine follows the curve (or non curve) of the knife the better the aesthetics, IMO.
Interesting to note that the PP blade even sweeps up just a bit to follow the curve of the serpentine knife spine.
They're both nice knives, although obviously in different leagues.

That’s because the handle is very down curved there. Those clip points are perfect, though.

I've been looking for a Schrade 72OT USA for a while now. I know its not a real rare knife or a grail knife or anything, but it just seemed like I couldn't fine one that wasn't either rough or, IMHO, overpriced. I found one recently still sealed in the original clamshell package for an extremely reasonable price. Before I could finish checking out, somebody else bought it :( I thought, "Jeez its like a GEC drop. Things getting stolen right out of the cart. Robbed I tell ya."
But, I endeavored to persevere and found one that was in very good condition and reasonably priced :D Here it is with its more svelte brother the 12OT Pal:

I'm quite fond of these Schrades. I not only bought the 72OT, but two (yes, two  ) 33OT's. Been trying to find a reasonable one of these for a while also.

Seeing reverence for the peanut pattern here, I became curious. Suddenly, an opportunity to purchase my first peanut came up. I could choose between Case yellow delrin CV and this one. Liked the wooden scales and wharncliff secondary better. Still, I can't get myself to start to use it and gravitate towards pemberton in this size range.

Wow. That pinched peanut is a looker:eek:. The peanut just works for some people, to me it’s my pocket scalpel. Regardless if you carry the pinched peanut or not, it a great knife to have in your collection.

Use it, sharpen it & enjoy!

One thing about it - whichever one you choose, you can't lose! They're both beautiful.

I finally got myself a real Case Peanut. I found a store (relatively) near by that is a dealer for Case (along with some other brands), which is awesome. It is a beautiful looking knife, but unfortunately the main blade has blade rap (I didn't drop the kick or anything on the main blade, which is the one that has the blade rap). I contacted Case, as I sharpened it about 20 times to no avail.

(This shop doesn't sell online AT ALL, so I'm hoping this picture is okay. It's the only one I took of the knife.)
