Have these people packed it up? I ordered 8 Cub Scout knives from them last month. I received the knives and all seemed like a great transaction. I looked at my CC bill this month and they charged me again for the same knives. I have tried calling all the phone numbers I can find for them and they are all disconnected. I have emailed them several times and have heard nothing back.

In looking through several threads here, I noticed that people have different opinions of them. Some have great things to say, others say stay away. In the threads I read that voiced complaints, there was always someone named John appologizing for the error and promsing to make it right. His email was John@cumberlandknives.com. I sent an email to this adress and wouldn't you know it, the email address is no longer valid. Stay Away............Stay far Away.

Oh well, live and learn.

I will be interested in any response as well. I posted a ??? on the traditional knife thread about a 1 blade mountain man. Many suggested knives from the same site, and I decided in a knife from there as well. Guess we'll see.

Good thing you surveyed your CC statement! Your CC company will remove the duplicate charge, give them a call.

I should have clarified in the beginning that cumberlandknives.com is in no way associated with Cumberland Knife Works which is a fine upstanding business to deal with.

Anyway, an update to the saga.

It seems that this company has been charging my card once a week for the last month. He's got me for over $600 now which my bank feels confident they can recover.

They do business as the following companies:
www.cumberlandknives.com
www.cumberland-knives.com
Knife Country
Cookeville Knife and Cutlery.

I have sent several emails to him asking politely to address the issue and he continues to ignore them. It is funny though, I sent him an email under a different email address inquiring about the availablity of an Emerson Commander and he answered me in under 1 hour. He has had all his phone numbers disconnected but continues to do business.

I kick myself in the ass for not doing a simple internet search on his company before making a purchase.
I would highly suggest to avoid doing business with this man in any way.

You are describing what looks very much like criminal conduct given notice to the company that they are making charges that are unauthorized by you.

Contact law enforcement so they can investigate and determine if these improper charges are intentional.

I have since been in contact with the company and they have told me that they will be addressing the problem.

Now tell me just how in the world can a so called reputable dealer " accidentally " charge someone over and over by mistake ???

This is Bill Horn of Cumberland Knife Works.....John Hopson is the person behind this criminal activity. Our local law enforcement agencies have been looking into his dubious practices for quite sometime. I get calls continually from irate customers wanting to know where their knife is.....thinking they bought from me. I have an extensive list of his customers who have called me.

He has operated under various names ...obviously to stay ahead of the shell game. Most recently he changed his name to Cripple Creek knives. I called Bob Cargill ( owner of that popular name ) and made him aware. Needless to say , Bob's attorneys squashed that usage. How lame brained can a person be ???

It now appears he is out of business. I ran a search of his name ( Cumberland Knives and Cutlery ) and got a notice saying they were closed. Good luck to all who have paid and not rec'd product.

Feel free to contact me for help ( 931-537-9662 or eMail "knifeboy@charter.net" )

there is ONE good review of them here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256913&highlight=cumberlandknives.com

I had a run in with john about a year ago. pursue it pursue it pursue it. He eventually refunded my money minus the shipping, twenty dollars I think, because supposedly it was lost in the mail. :jerkit:

we should have a sticky of knife dealers who are not to be dealt with.

poor business skills AT BEST. at worst, a f-----g thief.

I DID a search before ordering from cumberlandknives.com and the reviews were mixed. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt and got burned. hopefully this clown won't get away with his antics much longer and other potential buyers see this before they consider buying from him.

I have a similar problem. I have been billed for two knives with absolutely no confirmation of an order, aside from the automatically generated one that is sent when an order is placed. Now the site is apparently closed and the only method of contact is through email. Am I going to be able to retrieve my money by communicating to my credit card company, or is this guy getting away with this fraud?
